Official Thread for UCLA Fall 2014 Wait-Listed Students

I also was recently admitted off the waitlist for UCLA mechanical engineering. I have already SIRed to UCSB, how do I change my SIR at UCSB? Is it ok to send in my UCLA SIR before changing my UCSB SIR? Please help, I only have a few days to accept UCLA, and don’t see how to reverse my UCSB decision. Thank you.

@condorflying‌, you have to withdraw from the university, but I’d SIR at UCLA first! Here are the instructions for newly admitted students withdrawing from UCSB: <a href=“Withdraw from the University - UCSB Office of the Registrar”>http://registrar.sa.ucsb.edu/withdraw.aspx</a>

Thank you. I am just worried about having two SIRs in at the same time for two different UCs. Thanks for answering quickly.

@tippytoe Omg. I did not know that they would be taking students off the waitlist this early! I expected it to be after June 1st. Still on the waitlist right now.

For those of you who were admitted off the waitlist, did you guys write an appeal of any sort in your waitlist statement? Any advice?

I just included my senior year grades, but I didn’t write an essay or anything like that.

Do they take people off of the wait list by major?

@condorflying I am not an expert…maybe you should call either school to confirm. But then again, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Haven’t heard back yet either. I SIRed at Davis though and I’m pretty happy with that, I’d just like to know. Best of luck to everyone else that hasn’t heard back yet!

Is anybody definitely turning down UCLA if they get off the waitlist? I feel like maybe I’ll do that since I was accepted and SIR to Amherst College and they are one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation. Plus they have great financial aid and are compared to Ivy Leagues. Is anybody in that same boat where they really like the college they SIR to and most likely won’t accept UCLA’s admission decision?

@conheo, I know… We were expecting them to start in early May, but had no idea they’d start BEFORE SIR day on May 1. Don’t know if that’s good or bad news…? @sillymichelleeee, thanks, and congrats on Davis! That is the UC that seemed to hand out the most rejections this year among my daughter’s friends. My youngest daughter (future vet?) has been firmly telling me since she was 12 that Davis will be the school for her one day. @mdelariv, my daughter would accept if she got off the UCLA waitlist, but I’m sure there are definitely students who will turn it down because they are very happy where they SIR’d to. Congrats to you on Amherst! There is a lot to be said for small/private…for a long time, Chapman was tied w/UCSD for my daughter’s 2nd choice.

Is tomorrow, May 7, the next wave of waitlist decisions that UCLA will be sending out? Or is it the day after tomorrow, May 8, since tomorrow is the deadline for students to response to the May 3 decisions?

I think it’s tomorrow… wish everyone luck!!!

@tippytoe Still have not received my waitlist decision, although the cost difference with UCSD may not be justified regardless. (I got Regents at UCSD which is giving me ~12k)

My S was admitted off the waitlist this morning. He received an email re: his decision status at 7:40am PDT. Undeclared Social Sciences.

For those that got off the waitlist today, is the deadline to response May 11? I’m guessing whatever deadline they told you is when the next wave happens.

@mdelariv My D was also admitted off the waitlist this morning (email notification regarding status at same time as LNmomof2, 7:40 AM Pacific time, then acceptance letter after log-in). Acceptance deadline stated for SIR is “by 11:59 PM PDT on Saturday, May 10, 2014.”

@UCmom3 Thanks! So that means that the next wave of decisions is on May 11. I’m guessing that’s the last wave since the deadline for that would be 11:59 PM May 14. UCLA said they would be done with their decisions around mid-May.

Hey, congrats to your families @LNmomof2, and @UCmom3! Always nice to read about good news, even if it’s not ours  @Novulux, my daughter SIR’d to UCSD too. She’s in ERC. Kudos on the Regents scholarship! That would probably keep us at UCSD…hard to pass up that much $. So the rest of us still wait. Since the 11th is a Sunday, I wonder if they’d still send notices out that day, or if they’d wait until Monday? Going by last year’s UCLA waitlist posts, I’m guessing that there will probably only be 2 more waves.

@tippytoe One of the earlier waves this month was sent out on a Saturday. So I’m pretty sure that UCLA will be sending out the next wave on Sunday.

Does anyone actually know how many more waves there are going to be? I know from previous years they usually end around mid-May but the UCLA website says “it is likely that we may not be able to notify you of an admission decision until after May 1, and no later than June 1.” So I’m guessing that means that there could be waves until late May.
