I was considering applying to CAS and CALS when I was applying to Cornell ED but then some threads on cc told me that was a really BAD idea. don’t do it

why not? i’m so confused…i wanna major in bio but my ECs are more research based so i heard i should apply to CALS but as a bio major i aim to become a physician and others tell me to apply human ecology. any suggestions?

i had posted in another thread that i was doing hotel as my primary choice and arts and sciences as my second choice. i asked people my chances for arts and sciences, and everyone kept saying “no no no, they won’t even look at your app as it only very rarely goes to the second school.”

They basically said no at hotel and sent my file to arts and sciences, where I was accepted!

I’m not sure if this is the norm or not, but that’s what happened to me.

Meh, if the programs are similar, I don’t think it can hurt you. I got in ED to ILR and I think the opportunity to send them another essay (even if it was for PAM) helped. They got to learn more about me and I think it’s clear from my stats that the essays are what got me in.

Don’t force it. If you really don’t have interest in a second school and would only be applying in order to have a second crack at an acceptance, then don’t bother. It’s highly unlikely the second school will even see your application.

If you truly think your passions and EC’s are a great fit for not only your primary school but a second one as well, then apply. It’s only an extra essay.

Stop playing the “will it help me or will it hurt me” psychological game. It’s unlikely to do either which is why you should only apply to a secondary school if you have a genuine reason.

I agree with Malan89. I thought that applying to a second school gives you an extra essay to show who you are. Who knows whether adcoms actually read the second essay or not, but if they do read it, then there’s an additional opportunity for you to express yourself.

I read in another thread that it could harm you in the way that it might not show fit as much.

Hence this thread… just to see what the actual statistics say.

I might as well answer my own question:

1) 2

2) Applied to CoE primary and CAS alternate
