That’s bizarre. I can’t find the “Parents caring for the parent support thread” at all. I will submit a report, but it probably won’t get noticed until Monday.
romani, can you recall the names of any other pinned threads that have disappeared?
Just that one.
The “closed to comments” thing only seems to be happening in the Financial Aid forum…
Huh, 've got 30 bookmarked and only 29 there.
OK, thanks. I also saw a closed thread in the parents’ forum that I’m suspicious of. Could someone try to post in this one and let me know what happens? (Moderators can post in closed threads, so I can’t check it out.)
<a href=“1098T- Who FIles? - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums”>1098T- Who FIles? - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums;
Nope, that one’s closed to me.
Nope, can’t post there. There’s no reply box. It says “This discussion has been closed.”
Well, maybe a moderator closed it since it wasn’t posted in the financial aid forum. I will ask.
I hope the Parents Caring for Parents thread comes back. That mini-community is more than discussion, it’s vital support for some of us.
I agree, LasMa. I am sure it’s some kind of bug.
All right last thing today (Promise)… sometimes when I go to a page, there are check boxes next to pinned or featured threads. Most times, there are not. I started seeing this about a week ago. I’m not sure what the check boxes do and it seems to be very random. I will try to screenshot next time if no one else has seen them.
romani, no need to apologize! A screenshot would be helpful if you get a chance.
Doesn’t work for me on mobile. Any tricks or apps?
Every click I make, I have to go through a series of additional clicks, accepting the new page through aparticular browser. Using Android. Haven’t experienced this with any other sites. Used to use Tapatalk for CC, which was a bit problematic, but now seems to be discontinued.
Oh I think I figured out the check boxes. I think occasionally it’ll glitch and the flames turn into boxes (as in, it’s an issue on my end rather than a CC issue)… but I’ll let you know if I notice anything different
OMG, I really need the parents supporting parents thread. Please fix!
oldmom, you could start a separate thread in the Café. I know we’d lose context, but it’s better than nothing. I’m not holding my breath that CC is going to restore the other thread quickly.
LasMa, maybe this one- <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1639147-where-did-parents-caring-for-the-parent-support-thread-go.html”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1639147-where-did-parents-caring-for-the-parent-support-thread-go.html</a>
Maybe someone can get it pinned.
If we get the other back, someone can copy/paste what goes on the temp thread.
Thanks, lookingforward. I posted there.
there is a bug in the forum software that prevents reporting some spam messages. for example <a href=“m when bad weather strik - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>m when bad weather strik - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums; If you try to flag it you get a popup that says it has too many characters. It looks like the “flag” feature copies the contents of the flagged post into an email to the moderators instead of simply creating a link to the offending post. There are attacks called buffer-overflow that start by putting too many characters into a buffer, so it looks like the forum software has a check for that (good) but that the check prevents reporting spam (bad).
Hey, give me some credit. I TOLD everyone that I would report this, but it would be Monday before anyone at CC saw it -
