Would it be possible to bring back the date stamps for when a poster joined?
Much easier to sniff out potential trolls that way.
I’ve been gone for a few months since the downgrade. It’s disappointing to see that things haven’t improved.
You can find the date a poster joined in the user’s profile.
“Emilybee, when I hit the iPad icon for the application, it takes me to exactly THIS format…the one through Safari. They look the same. The OLD application looked different. When I did the iTunes update, I got an application that is the same as going through safari.”
I never downloaded the new app. It’s taking me to the old format. I don’t know why it’s doing that but it is.
Yes…and when I was going to the OLD iPad format, there were NO new posts after January 3. So I finally updated.
But I WILL say…I liked that OLD IPAD application format, and would love to have it back!!
Ironic. I searched for this thread so that I could bookmark it… and got logged out when I found it.
Anyway, I will echo what others have said. I would like to be able to subscribe to specific forums.
Two issues:
<a href=“1”>b</a>** The “OFFICIAL CC FORUM UPDATES THREAD,” despite being “pinned,” is gradually slipping down the page, below unpinned threads with more recent posts. What’s up with that???
<a href=“2”>b</a>** I want to be able PREVIEW private messages before I send them!
I am the queen of the typo - I’d like to be able to clean them up before my message gets sent!!!
Yup, you can, but that is an extra step that many don’t want to take. Why should we? Before we didn’t have to.
And trying to do it on mobile? Forget it.
Yes, you can, but . . .
(1) as noted, it’s a PITA, and
(2) if it’s a multi-page thread, by the time you go and check the user’s profile page and come back, this fancy new “upgraded” system will take you to a different page in the thread than the one you were on in the first place!
I would echo some of the concerns above:
- So. Much. White. Terrible use of space (lots of scrolling) and hard on the eyes.
- Makes me crazy that I can’t pop into the college list and see which colleges have had recent posts.<br>
- I don’t like the drafts at all. If I didn’t post it… it is because I didn’t want to. Why save it so I have to go and delete it later? It is a headache. If drafts are what allow us to keep from losing things partway through typing long posts (which did happen sometimes on the old forum), maybe they should have an expiration (24 or 48 hours?). Then delete 'em automatically.
- Very obnoxious that we can’t look through a forum and clearly spot where we have posted. The little gray box doesn’t cut it… it is the same if I opened a thread and read it. Sometimes I find threads uninteresting and don’t want to go back, so that is NOT the same as wanting to see a thread I posted on previously. There should be a separate symbol showing that I have actually posted.
- I really don’t like whatever decision process is being used to “pin” posts. Pinned posts are supposed to be things that would be useful for a long time, and could avoid repetitive questions (eg, “What Colleges Give Good Merit Aid” is a great pinned post). Pinning a post just because someone like Sally or DaveB or Roger posted it is NOT a good use of pinning. If their posts are important (sometime they are, sometimes they are not), they will bump to the top via posts and comments. If not, they will fall down the list (as they should). Stop pinning their posts just because of who posted them.
- The little fire icon means nothing to me, and I don’t think I have seen an explanation. The threads I have seen them on certainly don’t seem “hot” or “important” to me… it seems random.
Things I like:
- I like the avatars.
- I like the ability to hop to the last place I was in the thread when I go into it so I don’t have to page to get there.
- I like the points system. Almost as good a the little green boxes…
^ what little gray box? and I still don’t know what the fire symbol means either.
When I scroll through a forum or something like “latest posts”, there is a little gray box with a white number in it that appears to the right of the number of pages in the thread if I have clicked on the thread before and if someone else has since posts. It shows how many posts there have been since I last looked at it. This is the only way (other than clicking on my user name and going to the “replies” list) that I have found to figure out where I have already posted. There used to be a little colored dot of some kind on the threads you had posted on. That symbol is gone in the new world… I don’t want the gray box to go away, I want some other symbol added that shows I have posted at some point on this thread.
I thought it was proudly announced that this issue had been fixed?
@mmib22, can you please send me a PM detailing the issue? I will pass the info on to the tech team for proper investigation. Thanks!
You can bookmark, then just go to My Bookmarks. If there is a new post, you get the grey “x new” flag. You can bookmark something you haven’t posted in, just to follow it. It functions pretty much like the old red/yellow dots.
I never used bookmarks before, do kinda like this. But I still have an issue with needing to refresh to see if another poster and I are x-posting. Before, “preview” let me see that. Now, I post- and until I refresh, I look like the most current post. Have to refresh to see other new posts.
Thing is, same issue in reverse- the other person posts, not realizing I just commented. it’s causing more “collision” than before.
There are a whopping three threads on the front page of College Life that have more than 3 posts. The two over 7 posts are absolutely dominated by long-time parent posters. 1/2 of them don’t have a single response. CL is essentially dead.
I went back and looked at CL posts from March of 2013 and 2012. To say they were more active then would be a gross understatement.
You lost many longtime posters. You lost many casual posters (the CL crowd). Where, exactly, is the improvement? Maybe some forums are active that I don’t frequent but I’m not holding my breath.
romani, but those who remain are clicking a lot more, which I gather is the point of the downgrade.
Fair enough.
Seriously though, that’s interesting about the CL forum. I rarely venture outside the Parent Café, so I can’t guage the effect of the downgrade anywhere else. But here, it definitely has lost that buzzing, humming quality it used to have.
