Official Transcript Disaster

My daughter is up against a very tight deadline for transfer application namely tomorrow (5/15). I sent her current college a pre-paid, pre-addressed overnight envelope to the registrar for the transcript. I was assured it would go out. When I called to confirn on Friday, the registrar's office had closed early. I have been trying to track the package online since then and was initially encouraged by the fact that DHL told me that a couple of packages were packed up on Friday but that the tracking numbers were not in the system. Now it looks almost definite that the current college has not sent her official transcript in time to reach by the deadline. As a last resort I will have to be on the road myself for eight plus hours to make this happen. Has anyone had experience with official transcripts vs. non-official transript? We can print off her current college's website a page titled transcript with all the required information and have the official sent to arrive tuesday. I can't confirm this is OK with her transfer college until 8:30 am and will already need to be on my way to NYC by then in order to make this happen. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Hmm, well, if they ASSURED you it would go out in an overnight envelope on Friday, I would hope that is what they did. I wouldn't drive there. I would call the school first thing Monday morning and ask if it was indeed sent overnight on Friday. If for some reason it was not, i would ask them to fax a copy to the transfer school in the meantime wtih the caveat that the official transcript would arrive the next day. I would then call the transfer school to let them know that a mistake was made by her current college and that they were faxing an unofficial transcript but that the official one with the seal would arrive the next day. I don't think this will be a problem. It is not uncommon. I think if the student's APPLICATION is in on time but some official report is a day late, it will not mess up anything. It is not like they are reading her application tomorrow. Someone is going to gather all the apps and forms and reports and once they are together, it will be reviewed. The important thing is that HER part was in on time. Once you get the word from the first school as to when the transcript was or will be sent overnight, let the transfer school know when it will be in their hands. A day late for that one piece is not going to matter. Actually, it likely will arrive tomorrow if they sent it overnight as promised. And you can offer to have an unofficial one faxed in the meantime if it would help. I think it will all be OK. Just call and alert them once you have figured out what the situation is.

Thanks, soozievt! Actually, DD just awoke and informed me that she already asked the admissions counselor "what if" and was told that if her current school faxed in a transcript on Monday that her application would still be considered providing the official transcript was on its way. Insert big sigh of relief here.

unsoccer-mom, I have been through the transfer app document missing situation in spades! (DS is transferring due to Tulane's elimination of his EE major). I have found virtually every transfer U to be very cooperative and receptive to helping with these problems (we had lots due to mail problems into/out of New Orleans).

Yes, faxing an unofficial has always worked for us; "real" version to follow. Good luck.
