Hi, I am an international applicant, going to U of Melbourne in Australia next year. This is due to I got rejected from the colleges in the US (UMich, UT-Austin, Harvey Mudd, Caltech, MIT). I would try to transfer to the following unis next year: Cornell, UC-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon. I plan to retake my SAT 1&2 and hopefully will have a better chance of being admitted. I have a few questions for you guys.

1) Is the SAT scores posted in this thread the one people took in high school, or do they retake it during college

2) How do colleges respond to SAT scores retake after High School, but before college ie. in the summer. And how do they respond to SAT scores retake during college. From what I heard they barely look at SAT scores for transfer students. Is this true?

3) Please evaluate my chance of transfer to the universities that i listed

SAT 1 (high school): M 780, V 460, W 580
SAT 2 (high school): M2 800, Physics 760, Chem 710
IB: Predicted 37/38 points, and I think i will get 37-38.
no gpa or class rank - my high school follows british curriculum
SAT 1 (hopeful score of retake): M 800, V 550, W 650
SAT 2 (hopeful score of retake): M2 800, Physics 800, Chem 760-800

Also, I was invited to the British Math Olympiad in the first semester of my senior year in high school (ie. top 700 mathematicians in britain). Bronze, Silver, and Gold certificate in 3 consecutive years on the Senior Math Challenge. Nomination best Math and Chemistry student in sophomore year of high school, nomination best Math student in junior year of high school. I dont know if these will matter in the transfer process since they are awards from high school.

leo: my web status never changed, but I'm not so sure that for a transfer/GT it necessarily updates online when you get accepted. that may only be for regular applicants. however, if it does update when you get in even as a transfer then if what Ian told roots about them being backed up is true, then it may be awhile beofre you see a change in your online status irregardless of whether or not he said you got in.

anonymous,
Retake ur SAT-1 before u start college. And a you would want to do better than 550 on the Verbal...try for 600-650. Ur SAT-2s are fine.

I really dont know how it will turn out if i retake SAT 1, but I will revise alot and try to do my best in verbal. If i retake my SAT 2 I am pretty sure i can get 3x 800, because last time I did no revise at all. Should i retake my SAT 2 too?

and to norcalguy-, I am still in high school I will be graduating this summer.

i already registered for retake of SAT 2. I figured if they wont look at SAT as much for transfer applicant, they probably wont focus on my low verbal score. Instead they might be bummed if i get 3 x 800 for my SAT 2s.

By the way how does GT works. Does it work for international applicant. Can anyone fill me in on that?

anonamous , I really don't think you should be focusing on SAT IIs or Is. What is done is done. You need to focus on getting the highest possible GPA in College. Your SAT IIs are great and you really shouldn't bother with them. If the verbal score is really bugging you then go ahead and take them over. I had a 1280 SAT I and didn't bother taking over because I was determined to get high GPA. Remember that SATs aren't the only things that matter. Just my opinion.

the problem is that i dont know whether i can improve my verbal score, you see i have very bad english. but for sat 2 i am pretty sure i can improve them. anyway its too late to change my mind i already paid to register for it.

also, if i retake my sat 2 it will be considered taking during my time at High school since i am not in college yet, and colleges do look at that. what they dont look at (i think) is SAT taken during college.

We are providing you with our decision on your application to transfer to Cornell University. We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to Cornell.

This electronic message is not your official notification. You should be receiving an official letter from us in the mail shortly.

We understand that this is not the news you were hoping to hear from Cornell. Given our large and competitive transfer applicant pool, it is not possible to offer admission to all candidates who would benefit from a Cornell education.

We wish you the best.

Sincerely,

Has anyone received a decision for a transfer to CALS, non-GT?
Sorry, I am gonna cross post, because there are two damn transfer status threads!

Yeah I just checked now and found out i was rejected from CALS. I am not to bothered by it since I really didn't see myself there and was just applying to apply. Still waiting on Stanford, Upenn, UChicago, Northwestern, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Brown. :D
