Official Tufts ED1 2017 Hopefuls

Deferred as well, but so happy for all of you that got in ED!
And I feel you telephonic, being in limbo sucks, times a thousand.

I was DEFERRED as well. So sad. Just gotta keep fighting for the next round.

@Dan and everyone: Are there many or just a small number of students who were deferred? And do they usually end up rejected, or is there still a chance that the school might want them when compared to others in the RD round?

The thought of not being at Tufts next fall really breaks my heart…

Accepted! Congrats to all my fellow Jumbos – can’t wait to see you all on the hill! :)

For those thinking about applying, here are my stats:

GPA: 4.62 (w) out of 5.0

ACT: 33

SAT II: None

EC’s: I was recruited for softball, so that’s my main extracurricular. But i also help organize an annual christmas drive and other volunteer work!

Essays: My essays were a very good expression of who I am and what I was passionate about.

Good luck to everyone else apply, and congrats once again to my fellow classmates!! Tufts 2017 <3

Here are my daughter’s stats:

Status: Accepted

GPA: n/a (she is an international student, school does not report GPA)

Rank: #1 of her class

SAT scores: CR 700 W 700 M 670

AP: n/a she is an IB diploma candidate

EC: charity committee working with children displaced by guerrillas, year book editor, MUN, soprano singer, voracious reader.

Essays: Hard to be objective but I think pretty good ones, creative, amusing and moving.

Recos: I guess they were superb

My conclusion: numbers are important but this is really an holistic process, and I think essays are crucial.

Congratulations to all the new Jumbos. For those that were deferred, I read that this year’s ED applicants were amazing, it was so hard to choose, you are strong for the RD round, keep it up!

@ elefantasy
as an international student, does tufts give her financial aid? what is your household income?
I apologize for asking such personal questions, but as an international student myself, I need lots of financial aid, so the answers will help me lots.
thanks

Accepted into engineering! I’m looking forward to joining the rest of you in the fall!

Someone asked about stats:
GPA: 3.75/4.00 (Rank: top 5%)
ACT: 35
SAT IIs: Math II- 800 & Chemistry- 780
EC’s: Newspaper, student council, improv & sketch comedy (member of an ensemble, clubs, etc)
Essays: I have to echo everyone else by saying that it’s difficult to be objective, but I poured my heart into the Tufts essays. I spoke mainly about the importance of communication and openness to me.
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Hooks: First-generation (though I’m told this isn’t a major hook)
Teacher Recs: I asked teachers whose classes weren’t easy for me to succeed in. I don’t know how the recs came out, but my thinking was that they’d have a better picture of my ability to overcome academic difficulty.
Counselor Rec: I don’t know about the rec itself, but I have a strong relationship with my counselor.
Interview: It went well, overall. It came on a bad day for me, though, as I felt a little tired and scatterbrained (a day or so afterwards, I realized I was sick).

Congratulations, again, to everyone else who got in. I hope this collective energy high manifests itself again in the fall, when we meet. For those deferred, keep your fingers crossed, and those rejected, I hope the rest of your applications come back favorably.

It’s okay. We didn’t apply for FA. I’m sorry I can’t be helpful.

it’s alright. thanks for replying :)

Hey  I am applying ED2 for Tufts - cannot express how much I love this school - but my standardized test scores are terrible, definitley not on par with Tufts.
It really sucks because I have been a hardworking student since 6th grade (legit!!) who takes part and has leadership positions in activities I am dedicated to, and I also have really great summer experiences. It sucks that the US colleges I am applying to are limited because of my terrible standardized test scores.
Regardless, I LOVE Tufts and wanted to ask how much you think standardized testing plays a role in decisions?

(I have read the SAT article on their website which calmed my nerves a little but there seems to be this myth that you need good SAT scores to be a competitive candidate (which, personally, I fail to understnad because those scores say nothing about an individual apart from how well they can take a test).)

Collegecrazy, check out the GPA, SAT score graph at the following webpage: [Tufts University Profile - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for Tufts University](Tufts University: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores) It will give you an idea of your chances of getting into Tufts with your SAT score. Note that there are a few students with very low test scores who got in. My daughter got in with a pretty low test score, but she wrote excellent essays and took the time to make contact with someone at the school via email and got to know them a little. I think this is the pull that she needed to get in. Also she made sure to interview with the local alumni representative from our part of the country (West Coast). All of this together helped her get in despite having a lower test score. You might have a chance it you take the extra steps to show that you are a match and make some contacts. You have to stand out in some way other than test scores—essays, interest, contacts, etc. Good luck.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply  I will try to make my essays as kickass as possible - i love writing but ALWAYS get nervous when it comes to writing college essays which totally ruins the essay but anyway! Thank you!
Have been in touch with regional representative (am international) and visited the school over summer! I love Tufts so muchhhh ahhh
