*OFFICIAL* Tufts RD 2017 discussion/decision thread

Hi, I was accepted to Tufts and Boston College and I am trying to decide whether or not it’s the best school for me. I visited both schools over the summer and liked them both, but neither were my first choice (got rejected from there). So as of right now, I’m trying to decide between Tufts and BC, which many people have said are completely different schools.

Here are some facts about me. I love sports and have played them all my life (not playing D1). I think that I want to be a doctor someday, but I also really like business and economics. I try hard in every class that I take and am at the top of my class. I am technically Catholic, but I’m not very really religious. I am a white male from Westchester, New York.

If anyone has any insight on whether or not I should go to Boston College or Tufts, it would be much appreciated.

My advice would be to go visit both schools, attend a class or two, stay over if possible, but certainly eat in the dining halls and talk to some students. I suspect that there are events for admitted students at both schools.
My gut tells me that if you love sports insofar as being a participant, as long as you’re not talking a varsity level (i.e., club or intramural level), you could probably be happy at both schools. But in terms of varsity sports being a big part of campus life - either as an athlete or as a cheering student - I think that BC is ahead on that front.
Academics are excellent at both schools for both pre-med subjects and econ, although Tufts does not offer a business major. Generally speaking, I personally think that Tufts is stronger academically and is more highly regarded on that front, but B.C. is no slouch by any means.
As for being Catholic, “really religious” or otherwise, I am pretty confident that you would be comfortable at either the heavily Catholic B.C. or the very diverse Tufts.
Good luck with your decision. I don’t think you can lose!

Well done on your achievements this year everyone! I’m sure we’re all going to be very successful at our colleges even if they may not have been our top picks.
Also: I go to a rural high school where no one else in my class is leaving the state and only about a third of us are going to college. Don’t let where you are from hold you back, if you have a dream, go for it!
