ACCEPTED!

OBJECTIVE:

  • SAT I (breakdown): —
  • ACT: Comp: 30 (34 English, 31 Reading, 28 Math & Science)
  • SAT II: —
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.9
  • AP (place score in parenthesis): Bio 4
  • Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc AB, AP Chem, Philosophical Literature, Modern India, Cultural Spanish, Senior Internship
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): —

SUBJECTIVE:

  • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Club soccer (7 years), Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper (2 years), Student Leadership Team (4 years), Big Sib (1 year), Pianist (off/on)
  • Job/Work Experience: Summer work for a Children’s Museum
  • Volunteer/Community service: Homeless shelter (2 years), Sandy Relief, Student Community Leadership Team
  • Summer Activities: Stanford program, Brown pre-course
  • Essays: Strongest suit. I pride myself on my writing.
  • Teacher Recommendation: Very close with both teachers, I am assuming they were very nice.
  • Counselor Rec: Extremely close relationship with my counselor. He has been my sophomore English teacher and my mentor for four years.
  • Additional Rec: Brief rec from VP of my school, who graduated from Tufts.
  • Interview: Pretty well. Didn’t feel too comfortable with the interviewer, however, he did say “obviously, I am going to write you a great rec” at the end. This secured my lingering worries.
  • Supplementary Material: None

OTHER:

  • State (if domestic applicant):[li] Country (if international applicant): NYC[/li]* School Type: Public
  • Ethnicity: Multicultural (Mother is Caucasian, father is Hispanic and African American)
  • Gender: F
  • Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): Upper middle class
  • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Legacy (mother attended Tufts)

REFLECTION:

  • Strengths: Writing, grades and newspaper
  • Weaknesses: ACT score
  • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
I think the Tufts admissions office is most concerned with the voice of the applicant. I was very confident in my writing, and very confident that my personality would get across to them.
  • Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I applied to Tulane EA and was accepted with a $20,000 annual merit scholarship.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
When it comes down to it, the applicants who are seriously considered all have around the same grades and test scores. It’s the applicant’s voice that is the distinguishing factor. This is mainly why I didn’t repeatedly take the ACTs and stress over them, even though my ACT score was a bit below average.

Weaknesses: GPA
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Although my GPA is a bit under the Tufts average, I think I showed my love for Tufts and provided a genuine and accurate picture of myself in my application.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: haven’t heard from anywhere else!

General Comments: I am sooo honored and proud to be able to call myself a Jumbo! Every time I think about it, I can’t help but smile!! A very sincere thank you to Dean Coffin and all of Tufts admissions :D

-Strengths: GPA and ECs, definitely community service, I made sure to have a lot of other things to demonstrate besides school stuff that would make up for sports

-Weaknesses: standardized test scores (I could have prepped, but alas time escapes me), speech impediments (I even laughed at them during the interview X|), interest? (I visited once in the summer and met nice people, I’m more of a research-online person, but I did talk about the school a lot at the interview)

-Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: comparatively to the people at my school, I’ve had at least one unique factor to my gen course load (since 8th grade) that makes it more difficult, but I can handle a college load. I also think I stood out with my essays.
