[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I haven’t heard back from any other schools year

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): didn’t take (seriously)
[] ACT: 33
[] SAT II: 700 USH, 770 Spanish (no listening), 760 Math II
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): about 3.7; 92.5 on the 100 scale.

[] Senior Year Course Load: Three APs (AB, Enviro, Psych), and classes on James Joyce and US Constitutional Law. Also a teaching internship in the music department and fencing as my gym selective.

[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Jazz Band, sectional editor on both newspaper and arts magazine, Musical Rep band, mentored a sixth grade student with a history project, wrote for an anonymous advice service
[] Job/Work Experience: n/a
[] Volunteer/Community service: Central Park Summerstage, a few odd jobs here and there; nothing impressive
[] Summer Activities: Music camp; also a camp for web design one year
[] Essays: did all the optional ones; the personal statement was about Coltrane’s My Favorite Things, and for “Why Tulane” I talked about the location. Pretty good essays, I suppose, although no reason why yours couldn’t be better.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Two. I don’t know if one of them even made it to the office in time. Supposedly glowing, although of course I’ve never read them.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably unimpressive–my counselor quit her job midway through the process and I’m working with a new guy who is competent but just doesn’t know me that well at that point.
[] Additional Rec: nope
[] Interview: didn’t bother, although I was the only one at the info session when they came to my school, so I got to talk with the rep for a while.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: plan to apply for DHS and need-based
[] Intended Major: I put Linguistics. Probably a smart move, in retrospect, considering how small their department is.
[] State (if domestic applicant): NY
[] School Type: Public, but selective admissions
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: About $150,000 a year combined
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I think the recs and test scores pulled me through.
[] What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I focused a lot on my musical ability, even though it wasn’t related to my major. I figured in New Orleans, they’d like that.
[] Weaknesses: My extracurrics are solid, but definitely not that great. I guess I have just enough to show that I spend my time doing productive things. Also, my grades are kind of a rollercoaster for almost my entire transcript (and mostly my second-semester grades are lower than first-semester).
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Again, I probably hit a few of the buttons that they liked (music, especially). Also, and I would STRONGLY recommend this to everyone who applies, I was going to mention their resilient spirit and whatnot, but I decided I shouldn’t talk about Katrina or the BP Oil Spill anywhere. I don’t think they like that they’re still associated with that.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Don’t know yet.[/ul]
[/li]

Congrats, everyone!

Decision: Accepted

[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): school does not rank

[] Summer Activities: spent a summer volunteering

[] Interview: none
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: I don’t think I did, it was a while ago!

Strengths: academics

What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I think it was a different application, they like “invited” me to apply, so it wasn’t as thorough as my other applications, I didn’t really create a theme

Weaknesses: not a very strong essay, no sports!

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I guess grades?

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Haven’t heard! but I’m ELC so I’m guaranteed at some UCs, like UCSB

I don’t know where to put that I got offered $25,000 per year, so I’m just writing it at the bottom! Sorry!! and good luck to everyone!! [:

[] Teacher Recommendation: VERY strong. An English teacher approached me and asked to write it for me–she refers to me as the star of the English department  and another English teacher asked if he could include some testimonials within that letter–I haven’t seen it but I am sure it is very flattering.
