yes i did i got a 1980, and i realize that but I am a legacy at both W&M and UVa, so besides the fact that there great schools i figured i should apply there since i am not that far out of the range.

It is official, my D paid the deposit and she is now officially registered! One question, how do I get on the mailing list for the “Tailk of Tulane” that Fallen Chemist mentioned?

LOL, “Tulane Talk”. Here is the link: [Tulane University - Subscribe to Tulane Talk](http://tulane.edu/administration/president/tulane_talk/subscribe.cfm)

Congrats on everything! Very exciting for your D (and you) I know.

Fallenchemist,

Yeah I understand that I should watch a few General Chem lectures before I make a statement like that, but I don’t see how a school can take general and acid/base equillbrium lightly. I know it’s emphasized ALOT on the AP exam, but I would think there would be a valid reason why…not just because. If a topic was emphasized in a AP class, I wouldn’t think it would be taken lightly in a college course. But then again, I go to a hardcore magnet school with insanely intelligent students and only 5 people signed up for AP Chemistry…my teacher is a chemical engineer from Columbia, and she’s pretty hardcore. Last year every last one of her 4 students received a 5 on the exam…and I’m already scoring 90%+ on practice exams (even though she still isn’t happy with that -.-)…so I’m not insulting tulane or the level of academic quality, it’s just that my teacher is a perfectionist.

Horrors, taking acid/base equilibrium lightly! LOL, I am totally yanking your chain, I just realized how funny that would sound to 98% of the population. Actually, I did a little searching because you made me curious, and apparently quite a few students find their freshman Chem class easier than their AP class, at quite a variety of schools. I am sure that is largely due to them seeing the same material again so soon, but I also wouldn’t be surprised that some high school teachers are actually tougher on their students that the profs. Especially when you are in a class of only 5 students. Best of luck on the AP exam!

No email notifcations at ALL, have to keep checking Gibson! Really happy I was accepted! Proof that GPA does not equal everything… I thought I had no chance with my low GPA :/. Also proof that 1st semester senior year grades really do matter! I actually got deferred in the early action wave and was accepted right after I sent in my first semester grades (3.71 UW& 4.14 W) Anyway, congrats to you all and good luck to the rest!

Congrats mjsk! Enjoy Tulane. I would add, though, that your SAT scores are not mediocre. 2100 is quite good. It is 96th percentile overall, and 97th % for females. http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/sat-percentile-ranks-composite-cr-m-w-2010.pdf</a> It is amazing how easy it is to get a skewed view of accomplishments be reading too much CC!

accepted!
Mediocre SAT’s, GPA, Class rank
Very good essays, recomendations, and strong upward trend
8 Ap classes
Strong midyear report 4.0 , all A’s in 4 ap classes
So happy about this, i was a little worried

My guess is that 4.0 first semester was the clincher, although 1980 is really pretty good SAT. I mean that would be an average of 690 on each section! That is over the 50th % for Tulane and the vast majority of schools. Don’t sell yourself short!

Reflection

* Strengths: Leadership, test scores, GPA

 • Weaknesses: extracurriculars

My admissions decision is still pending? Is this bad? I think they just want to break it to me nicely. Either that, or they want me to get up my hopes then become crushed when I find out I was rejected. But if I got a full scholarship to their neighbor, Loyola-New Orleans, does that mean I have a good chance getting into Tulane? It’s aggravating! Loyola mails me something every single day and named me a “Cardoner Leadership Fellow”…they really really want me to go…but I want to go to Tulane. :(

I spoke with an admissions counselor recently and while I didn’t ask about the people that are in limbo (I know, I should have. Sorry) she did say they are determined to try as hard as possible to keep the class size down. It really is that important. So I have to think it has more to do with that.

Still, keep trying to get your counselor on the phone or by e-mail. They are traveling now, putting on admitted student receptions in various cities, but stay with it and see if you can find out what is going on with your app.

Decision: Rejected

Objective:

-SAT I (breakdown): M630 CR610 W650

Subjective:

-Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):camp counselor for underprivileged children, (Founder of tutoring club), (Mentoring club), Student Task Force, College counseling assistant, diversity day organizer, and more.
-Essays: I used my common app essay i dont know if it worked for tulane, i didnt do the optional essay though (probably a huge mistake.)
-Teacher Recommendation:great probably
-Counselor Rec:great probably
-Additional Rec:
-Interview:nope

Other

-Applied for Financial Aid?:nope
-Intended Major: psychology or business, i didnt get to choose when i applied,
-State (if domestic applicant):California
-Country (if international applicant):UK
-School Type: private
-Ethnicity:white
-Gender:male
-Income Bracket:wouldn’t need any support
-Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):first generation to attend in US

Reflection

-Strengths:ECs and i think my junior and senior year grades. My essay for common app was GREAT, maybe it didnt work for tulane
-Weaknesses:Tulane has the WORST application. I had to do it all in one sitting, wouldnt let me save. Also i didnt get to choose a major, and they were horrible about responding to emails, never got a single reply
-Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:I guess im not the right religion(if you know what i mean). I don’t really know why i was rejected, i didnt really show much interest in it, like meeting with the counselor when he visited or going to the campus. i applied in december though so i thought that might show some passion. Im kind of bummed out although i wouldnt have gone to tulane anyways, i think it was more that i applied to see if i would get in.
-Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:accepted to University of Denver, University of San Diego, CHapman University, and Cal Lutheran. Still waiting on Pepperdine, NYU, USC, Vanderbilt, American. Vanderbilt im never going to get into, and now that i wasnt accepted to tulane i probably wont get into NYU or USC. ALthough i’ve shown crazy interest to USC. Lets hope.

ukfrca - Sorry you didn’t get accepted. I must ask though, what did you mean by “I guess im not the right religion(if you know what i mean)”

it was just a bad joke, because i think something between 33-40% of the student body are jewish, and thats only the ones who say that they are. I mean im sure thats not the reason i was rejected lol. But all the people i know who have been accepted have had like pretty jewish last names and my friends who went there in the fall said most people you meet are jewish, or they’re from jewish families. Bad Joke, dont even listen to me

Ukfcra,

If you were rejected, then I have no hope. -.-

UKC- I was accepted to USD and Chapman as well (and coincidentally, waiting for Vandy too). LOL.

Where are you from in California? Just as an aside: be sure to visit USD, it’s stunning!

ukfcra - sorry for the reject. Would you mind saying how you found out, was it through Gibson? And if so when? My D has about the same stats as you and we are still awaiting her decision.
