You are not coming off as pretentious, I don’t think. This is a perfectly valid thing to ask. However, I would like to know what your friends’ stats were that you think are close to yours. Because while I don’t mean to make it sound like your academic achievements aren’t very good (because they are, as demonstrated by the fact you have been accepted to a very selective university), a 29 ACT and 3.45 UW GPA are not Honors Program stats, and pretty unlikely to warrant a merit scholarship. Although you say you are top 10%. If you know that for sure and your guidance counselor can back that up, definitely emphasize it. It shows your school is very strict in grading (or you are in a very small school, potentially) and therefore the 3.45 would be better than it might seem at first glance.

If you are having a very good semester grade-wise, I would recommend waiting until you have your final grades. Then have your counselor send them to Tulane along with the confirmation you are in the top 10% of your class, and then after you are sure Tulane has them, talk to or write to your admissions counselor.

hi yeah thanks. As far as the 3.45 goes, I know it’s a bit low. I’m in the top 10% (top 6% actually)… i am in the most prestigious program in my school. that being said, it could be higher.

29 is a bit low but Tulane superscores, which should bring me up to a 31…

I think they superscore for admission but not for scholarships. However, I won’t swear to the accuracy of either part of that statement. But certainly you can point it out when you contact them. You have a decent case for some merit money I think, but not for the Honors Program. The latter isn’t too big of a deal. If you really want to graduate with honors, you can earn your way into the program after freshman year.

Does anyone know if Tulane only posts admission decisions on business days? I applied November 1st and it still says “Your application is complete. The Committee on Admission is working to render your decision as quickly as possible. If you have questions regarding your status, please call the Undergraduate Admission Office at 800-873-WAVE (9283).” on Gibson Online. Thanks!

My ds saw his on line on a Saturday morning, but that was back in fall of 2007. Not sure if its still true, though don’t know why it wouldn’t be.

I am quite confident they are working 6 or even 7 days a week to get everything done before 12/15. I think decisions could go up on Gibson any day of the week right now. Of course, there are only 5 days left anyway, if you applied EA or SCEA.

A friend of mine received her decision via Gibson this morning, so yeah, they post decisions on weekends.

She’s the first person I’ve heard of this year to be deferred, but then again, I really doubt that those who’ve been deferred so far are going to be eager to post it on a message board.

It also makes sense they would wait on the borderline applicants until near the deadline, since they are comparing applicants against each other as well as against minimum criteria.

Totally second what jym is saying. It seems to me that the deferred applicants that end up getting in usually have something that they can point to as a real plus (retook SAT/ACT and did better, first semester grades were better than past semesters are the usual candidates) and then take the initiative to tell their admissions counselor about it (as opposed to just sending them in without comment) and reenforce their great desire to attend Tulane. If they are going to get the nod, that will maximize their chances.
