***Official Tulane Class of 2016 Decisions***

are you automatically considered for merit?

Hey everyone,

I submitted my application at the beginning of October, but Tulane didn’t receive my transcript until yesterday so my application was just now listed as complete.

How long does it normally take to get a decision? Also, I see all of these posts about merit aid (congratulations johngesa!). If I am interested in that, was I supposed to apply for it or anything? Thanks.

Your official acceptance letter should inform you of any initial scholarship offers.

The scholarships that everyone’s receiving right now are ones that applicants are automatically considered for. There are others, worth larger amounts of money, that require separate applications- the DHS, Community Service Scholarship, and the various Louisianian scholarships.

So is it that first, Tulane will post that a student is accepted (or rejected), and then, they will send a letter with initial scholarship offers?

emilyish - exactly right. Online they will only post accepted/rejected, the physical letter will let you know what merit scholarship you received, if any, and if you got into the Honors Program.

Just to clarify butaneVeins’ remark, every accepted student is automatically reviewed for between $7500-$27,000 per year in merit scholarships. The DHS (full tuition) and the Community Service Scholarship ($5000-$15,000 per year in the past) require additional applications. The slight clarification is that while technically the CSS is not worth more than most of the merit scholarships, it can be added to them, bringing a student’s total award to a higher amount, up to full tuition.

those of you who already got your letters when did you guys apply? i submitted all my stuff by oct 12th and then had my SAT rushed on the 20th

ACCEPTED!!!
Son accepted EA!!

D accepted EA, took 8 days from application!

And my application was just listed as complete about 4 days ago haha

how long did it take for people to get their letter after seeing they were admitted online
( for those who live in the northeast)? I got accepted last saturday and am anxiously waiting for the merit package.

Oh hey, I’m going too. :D

@butaneveins Haha really? Cool! I’ll surely be visiting Tulane at that time. Maybe I’ll see you there?

By the way, how much merit aid did you receive?

i’m submitting my application tonight or tomorrow for early action. how long did most people wait for a reply?

Accepted! My app was listed as complete a week ago. I got my decision late on Friday, and I got the letter today. 27K, yay! I applied b/c it’s my safety school, but the money is making it look veryyyy attractive! Good luck to all!

caesarea1 - Congrats!! Have you been to visit yet? If you have read through some of the older threads you have probably heard this already, but there are NUMEROUS students at Tulane that went down exactly the same path as you. Tulane was barely on their radar or at best a “safety” (don’t care for that term, but as it is ubiquitous I will acquiesce), got the nice merit scholarship, went to visit, became very enthralled with the campus and the atmosphere, and it moved up to a top 3 choice, often a first choice. Something to consider if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet. Keep in mind there are Honors weekends in March and/or April that might be interesting for you.

What you tried to focus on in your application -how I would fit in with the culture of service, but tried to stress how I could bring something different, since I came from an area that didn’t send people to Tulane
Weaknesses: SAT
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: GPA. I didn’t get to visit and only attended one info session. Think recs may have helped too.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: applied: Wabash, Claremont McKenna, Lawrence, Hanover, state schools, Northwestern. Have heard from a few LACs but this is the biggest deal so far.
