Official UC applicants for Fall 2010

I wanted to start a a thread for all of us who are trying to be ahead of the game for applications next fall.

Applying to(in order favorites)- UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCSD, UCD
Major-Philosophy
GPA-3.5
Units-70
IGETC- Will be complete before application
Pre-reqs- Will be completed before spring 2010
No TAP or Honors program ( hopefully that wont hurt me too bad)

UCLA profiles for 2008 says acceptance rate is 67%. either that means everyone is really qualified who applies or its not too difficult to get in to.

Feel free to state your major and where you want to go, or to give advice to all us who are just beginning research the application process

All I can say is that you should research the colleges at UCSD thoroughly. I just glanced over a brief description of each school, and did not rank them properly. Fortunately, UCSD admissions still put me into a great school despite my rankings.

I really can’t give out any other advice until I find out if I got into UCLA and Berkeley. Until then I won’t know if what I’ve done was enough.

Applying to(in order favorites)- UCLA [Business-Economics], UC Berkeley [Economics], UCSD [Economics], UCI [TAG approved for Business Economics]
Major-Business Admin/Business Economics
GPA- 3.68
Units-78 semester all UC transferrable by Spring 10’
IGETC- Completed by summer of this year
Pre-reqs - Will be completed by spring 2010
No TAP

Only listed the UC’s I will be applying to. I will also be applying to private and out of state universities.

Applying to (in order of preference): UCB, UCLA, Cal State Long Beach
(yes, I know!!..for me it’s an “all or nothing” kinda thing. However, I just might consider applying to UCSD. If I don’t get into UCB or UCLA, it’s not worth it for me (financially) to go to the other UCs (I’m an older non-traditional working student). Not only are the Cal States’ signifcantly cheaper, they are far more flexible to working students as well!!)

Major: Electrical Engineering (EECS at Berkeley)

Overall & Major GPA: 4.00

Units completed so far: 58

IGETC: Not Applicable for my major (will complete min. general ed. requiremtents)

Pre-reqs.: Will have completed 100% of them by Spring 2010

Although TAP, does not apply to my major at UCLA (or Berkeley for that matter), I’m planning on pursuing the Honors Transfer Program just for the heck of it (to make a better impression I suppose) - I just need 2 more honors courses anyway. Might do TAG with UCSD if I do apply.

That said, I’m a bit apprehensive about applying to UCSD, because of the possiblity of being rejected at UCB and UCLA, in favor of UCSD (since we submit a COMMON application). I know people have said that this does not happen, is anybody really sure they don’t do this (to “distribute” people equitably at all campuses??)

…I think it’s important for people to post their ECs as well. At places like Berkeley and UCLA I know this makes a huge difference (even if you have a 4.0 GPA).

I don’t have any ECs per se, to speak of, but am hoping that my 40+ hour a week full time job (as well as jobs I’ve held in the past in different fields) combined with the fact that I’m an older student making a career change will “fill in” this gap. I intend to write a strong personal statement on this.

There are so many factors that determine whether or not you get into schools, its overwhelming. I always mention to my friends how good of a business idea it would be to start a website with easy, accessible information that covers everything from start to finish–from applications to scholarships, even ranking universities, the whole works. What do you guys think about something like this

Applying to: Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, CSULB
Major: (Social Cultural) Anthropology
GPA: 3.6
Units: I’ll pass 60 by the time i’m leaving my CC
IGETC, Pre-Reqs all done.
TAG: UCSD (College preference: Muir, Marshall, Sixth, Warren, ERC, Revelle [F**k That])

I also did AmeriCorps for a year, and am in EOPS, and won a national award for community service, so I’m hoping that will give me a slight edge! Does anyone know if UC’s eat that stuff up, so to speak? haha.

eshug1, i’d like to think you’re already on one like that right now.

I plan to apply for Winter 2010, but should the UC I want decide to not accept winter applicants, I’ll just remain until fall. Either way, my stats are:

Applying to: UCSC, and some others depending on if they are open
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.93
Units: 100+ Semester
IGETC: No
TAG: Fall Only
Prerequisites: Everything for UCSC by Winter

barnaby- does UC Santa Cruz have a strong computer science program? (I don’t know too much about the school, so I am actually wondering)

I know that UC Irvine has a REALLY solid Computer Science program- you should check it out, unless you’re set on UCSC.

I’m applying or Fall 2010, but I still think it’s too early to say stats as we still have spring, summer and falls grades to determine our gpa’s.

theregoesevan, UCSC is a UC, so they will undoubtedly have great science programs. I don’t pay attention to rankings, but here’s a CS listing with their grad program at 48, [GRE Guide - Computer Science Rankings](http://www.greguide.com/comps.html).

I was accepted to UCI’s CSE major for Fall, but seeing that I LIVE in Irvine, I kind of want to get out of here and try something new.

UCSD is tuff to get in.
Found a good chance estimator at:

wish me luck, my counselor said I should have enough pre-reqs to tag my way into every school but UCB and UCLA but we’ll see, fingers crossed I REALLY want to go to UCSB in 2010.

64 quarter is not enough to transfer. You won’t get accepted anywhere. You need 60 semester or 90 quarter.

oops… luckily for me that was typo… yeah it will be 64 SEMESTER, my bad.
