Yeah, dawg.

^silencemortal.

pinkfriday, are you in Cal’s TAP?

^How come some schools have TAP with Cal and don’t. Who’s responsible at the community college level for cultivating these relationships? These things need to be standardized.

Since we also want number in this thread here are mine.

Major: Media Studies (Possibly doubling in Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, or Rhetoric)

GPA: 4.0 Major GPA: 4.0

Prereqs: All Completed

IGETC: Need one class left, taking it now.

Credits by time of transfer: 61

Personal Statements: Okay. I’m never ever satisfied with my writing. Some may say I’ve got an interesting tale to tell.

ECs: Lots and lots. PTK chapter founder and prez. Started two foundations/charities. Local and international political consulting.

I’m vacillating between Cal and UCLA as my number one UC.

TAP at Cal isn’t like the UCLA program. It’s more about mentoring by Cal staff… It certainly can help in the admissions process, but it’s not the auto boost that the UCLA program is.

^Even still, a lot of students at my CC could have used the mentoring.

As far as the IRC channel idea goes, I’m definitely in. I already spend hours on IRC every day.

^I’m on AIM, Skype, Gchat. Please feel free to post your stats.

I’m curious, how many of the applicants have actually visited Cal?

Let me know if you have anyone non-school related questions that need answering. I lived on Durant across from Top Dog. I also did some political action committee work and have just visited the area enough to be very familiar with it.

Eyethink- I think that the schools they picked have high levels of low income/first gens. I don’t go to a school that offers TAP though and I’m still in the program.

Nick is right though. The program isn’t like UCLAs TAP but it does boast a 80% admission rate for the people in the program.

@eyethink - what’s your AIM/Skype? My AIM is in my profile if you want to message me. I actually live about 30-45 mins by car away from Berkeley (San Francisco) to be exact. I’m only a bridge away :D. I frequent Berkeley a lot because I am a cofounder of one of their clubs. Unofficially of course because I’m not a Cal student.

@Ella89 I wasn’t disputing what nick said. My contention is that in the face of budget cuts, community colleges need to do everything possible to equip their students to transfer. My school is doing a solid job as is, but it would be nice to have TAP for incoming freshmen facing a transfer climate much more disadvantageous than we are.

@xcaliberse I’ll PM you.

haasssss anybody given any thought as to what they would do if they were admitted to the Spring semester instead of Fall?

i would throw a ***** fit, get drunk, and then send my SIR to ucsd.

^^ LMAO @ redoplease. I may not have chosen UCSD, but I definitely know how it feels to be a spring admit :/.

I’m going to post about that in late April because some of you -will- be spring admits unfortunately and will probably have a bunch of questions/concerns.

Aren’t spring admits typically reserved for borderline acceptances? If that’s the case I’d go on vacation and just be glad I got in…

@ shinra: They’ll beat around the bush and tell you they just don’t have enough room and that it’s random, but in reality, it’s not random and -is- for borderline students.

Btw…definitely take that vacation. I did school plus a job in San Francisco, and I’m thoroughly tired and need a break lol.

^emil should be get paid for being a Cal spokesperson.

As much as I love Cal and the Bay – and I love them a lot – I would be hard pressed to turn down UCLA for its proximity to immediate family and especially since my major there appears to be more robust. Assuming of course that I get into both schools and financial aid is equivalent. ;-)

haha yay emil im excited for your thread!

Emil rocks.

Fall or spring, I’d just be glad I got in.

Is Berkeley everyone’s first choice UC?

I live in socal and it’s my #1
