*Official UC Berkeley 2011 Transfer: Acceptance/Rejection Thread*

BCP,

I have no idea what my first choice UC is anymore lol. I love the idea of studying at UCLA, but if I admitted to Cal, can I really give up the best public education money can buy AND in my humble opinion a better place to live? :-)

I think we should all get in before we make assumptions on what are 1st choice is once admitted.

That’s why I said, “if admitted.” I’m hedging. :-)

at this point, IF ADMITTED, i just can’t do Spring. It might change if I saw the letter of acceptance but honestly, BLEGGHHHHHH. my parents would **** a brick too if i postponed going to a 4 year another 6 months. I’d rather get rejected than wonder “what if.”

@ eyethink: LOL seriously, I’ve been thinking the same thing. I’ve been rallying for Berkeley for years now…well, at least 2! Hope you and all the rest get in! It’d be cool if some of us had classes together too.

@ BostonCrmPie: Thanks! I love you guys. For some reason, I just can’t leave the transfer community.

@ redoplease: haha I was so set on Cal, but when I found out I was a spring admit, and add that to the fact that my gf was going to UCLA and wanted me to go there…yeah, definitely the hardest decision of my life :)…or definitely up there.

We’re making long distance work though :).

Anyway, I wouldn’t let spring admission deter you if, indeed, that was the case. The reality is you need to go where you fit in best. Quick anecdote: My girlfriend wanted to be a film major at UCLA, so obviously it made more sense for her to go there than to pick Berkeley. Having been there nearly a year now, she admits that it just doesn’t fit her personality. She’s more artsy, creative, and intellectual and would have almost definitely been a better fit at Berkeley.

In the end, definitely go with where you fit in and will be happiest.

emil, are you living off campus? if so, is there good housing available near the campus?

@emilsinclair9 And we love you too. ;)

I saw that people in last year’s threads did decision reaction videos. Anyone down to do that?

emil - awww yay for making long distance work! thats what my bf and i would have to do if i do go to sd
is your gf thinking about transferring to berkeley? that would be so freakin’ perfect.
and yeah, you’re definitely right about going where one fits in best. sigh, if the dreaded spring admission occurs hopefully i can follow your advice :D

boston - i would be…but if i got in i would be blubbering so hard that snot would probably get on the webcam. not down for cc to see that.

No video for me… I’m not expecting much. Even with TAP I think my GPA just isn’t going to cut it. Don’t want a video of potential failure haha. With a 4.0 or close, I’d do it.

@ BostonCrmPie: lol I had an admission video, but it’s so dorky…extremely extremely dorky.

@ shinra: I live technically “on campus” in Wada, Unit 2. Essentially, Wada is an apartment though. You have a kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator (the works), and triples and doubles are both massive. It’s actually fairly cheap as well. I highly recommend Wada.

However, I wasn’t offered Wada for next semester. Had I been offered it, I would have stayed. Instead, though, I’m going to be living with my soon-to-be brothers in the fraternity house.

Random aside: If you have even a small inkling that you might be interested in joining a fraternity/sorority, definitely rush one! It never hurts to rush and meet the people. I never considered myself the “frat type” and still don’t, but I did find a fraternity with nice, intellectual, chill guys. We don’t party all that much, and pride ourselves on being gentlemen. In all honesty, the fraternity has seriously enhanced my college experience. It’s important to have close friends that support you where you are, and since I didn’t know much of anyone here, this choice to join one really helped.

Anyway, I’ll be living off-campus in a fraternity house where housing expenses are very very cheap (much cheaper than dorming). That said, although it is a perk to join a frat, it isn’t a reason to join one.

There is good housing nearby though. There are apartments on southside (Telegraph area) that are pretty cheap. However, the closer you are to campus, the more expensive your living will be. Additionally, it’s generally true that it’s much more expensive to live on northside. If you’re planning to live off campus and as cost effectively as possible, definitely live on southside and probably about a few blocks from campus.

@ redoplease: Lol she actually is thinking of transferring to Berkeley. She’s also considering Cal-arts, different UC’s, or even remaining at UCLA. Personally, I’d love it if she went to Berkeley, but I’ll have graduated by the time she arrives (in all likelihood). However, I do live in the Bay Area (well, where my actual home is), so we would be much closer to each other anyway.

Another aside: I’m thinking of going on a road trip with one of my brothers this weekend to surprise her (down to SD), but she’s sick and I don’t know if she’d like that, so I may not :p.

As for videos…lol no comment. Just see how you feel that day. If you feel daring and want to record one of the most memorable experiences of your life…well, a memorable one at least, go for it! I did and laugh every time I see it! :)

lol, I appreciate having this “official” thread even though we have a couple of weeks to go :)

As BostomCrmPie said, Fall or Spring Admit, I’d be so happy to be accepted! I’d then send my SIR with a QUICKNESS! Lol

Good luck everyone!

This is the official discussion thread haha. I think after all the acceptances are released we should make a pure numbers thread.

What are these “decision videos”? Like… a webcam video of yourself clicking on the link?

@shinra @emilsinclair9 Don’t forget the co-ops! Cheap housing right near campus. I already accepted a co-op offer for the summer and am on the waiting list for fall.

@ altschool: Is your coop offer Cloyne? If so have you visited? If not…beware lol. I wanted to live in the coops too :p.

I’m a little wary of co-ops lol. As an older applicant I would prefer a single. How hard is it to get a single with transfer housing emil?

T-minus 26 days and counting. :-)

What will everyone be doing on D-Day?

@emil Nope, I didn’t even list Cloyne on my preferences lol. I got into Hoyt for the summer, though I’m trying to transfer into Kingman or Lothlorien.

@eyethink There are two co-ops, Hillegass-Parker and the Convent, that are only for grad and re-entry students and guarantee a single for all residents. There are also co-op apartments where you can be sure of a single.

26 Days?!? Try 23 Days, 3 Hours, until the originally scheduled release (12 Noon on April 29).

@Altschool I’m thinking about co-ops as well. They seem pretty cool though I’d like to visit them first lol.
