Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

Hey, does anyone know anything about UC Reciprocity? I applied as a transfer from UC Riverside, and my boyfriend who goes to Cal has told me that my 4 unit classes will only get half-credit since quarter units are worth less than semester units. However, UC Reciprocity overrides all of the breadth requirements needed to take at the campus you’re transferring too, so I’m kind of confused as to what’ll happen. I really have no desire to retake my science breadth requirements ._.

@calgirl95, You need to talk to an advisor. It should all equal out because Berkeley adjusts number of units needed to graduate. It’s set to self-adjust. The only issue may be if you have a year sequence and took 2 quarters. You’ll only get credit for one semester, so will lose there. See example for one year series:

Semester: Calc 1 and Calc 2
Quarter: calc 1, 2, 3 (1 and 2 will just give 1 semester credit)

@Calgirl95 As long as you complete your GE requirements at UCR and get the letter of reciprocity, you don’t need to worry about Berkeley’s breadth requirements. The only time the quarter to semester conversion really becomes an issue is with prerequisites.

@lindyk8 Thanks! I don’t think I’ll have an issue with year sequences, I only took one and passed all 3 classes. My only issue is that if Cal (or any other school really) asks for syllabi for that I won’t have the syllabus for the first class because the professor retired (I think).

@soda4schrodinger If the classes I took as prerecs are 5 quarter units, should I be okay?

If you took the year sequence you should be OK.

@Calgirl95 Yeah, you’re fine. Sorry if I was unclear haha. Like lindyk8 was saying above, it’s not so much the units themselves, but the differences in the classes between semester and quarter systems. For example, one of my major prerequisites for Berkeley is Math 54, but I have to take both Math 20D and 20F at UCSD to fulfill it. As an inter-campus transfer, you don’t need to worry too much about how the credits transfer over, but more so the actual course equivalencies.

Hmm…I just got waitlisted by LA. I don’t think I stand a chance at UCB anymore given that I’m a UC/UC transfer.

just got accepted to UCLA! so now hopping over to this thread, haha

New member here! Made an account to ask a question. I’m in the same boat as you, @deepThinking25… just got waitlisted from UCLA and while that’s not the end of the world as I didn’t particularly want to go to UCLA, I feel like it’s not the best sign for Berkeley. I am a CC major so things seem a little more varied but idk, I’m kind of upset. Anyone have any advice?

My man got into UCLA and UCSD this afternoon! Next one down is Berkeley :D!

Same here. UCLA, UCD, and UCSD all on the same day.

Time for Haas! Haas is by far and away my number 1 choice, although it is nice to have some safeties.

Waitlisted by UCLA with the Psychology GPA 3.85…

UC-transferable GPA :3.96 (which I posted on myBerkeleyapp excluding the grades from out-of-state CC)
Major GPA:4.0
Pre-req: 6/7 1 in-progress
IGETC: by spring

Do I still have a chance to get in…?

@Hiroaki0422 so you won’t be using out of state transcripts ?

Now we hunker down for Cal

@Outerhaven
The myberkeley apps says “Complete this form using coursework from ONLY California community college” in the UC transferable courses section. And I can tell that page automatically calculates your GPA based on what you input.
So I guess my out of state transcript will not be taken by them.

You should have listed your out of state classes in the UC app. If you didn’t, you’ll get rescinded if accepted as you must submit all college course work including out of state.

Melimoo, don’t take UCLA’s decisions as and indicator for Berkeley’s. My gf was also waitlisted at UCLA but was accepted to Berkeley. I just got accepted to UCLA, but I don’t feel any more confidence about Berkeley. Both schools are so unpredictable. I just read another post from the UCD transfer thread and person was rejected from UCD but accepted to UCLA. So really, all you can do is make the most out of any outcome.

Got rejected at UCLA for Psychobiology. I feel that my only weakness in my app was that I was missing a pre-req. Unfortunately, I am now missing two pre-reqs at Cal since I thought I was for sure going to UCLA. However, I did state that I will be completing these pre-reqs during the summer, which I hear Berkeley is ok with. Does anyone know if Cal is as strict with their pre-reqs as UCLA?

Also, might as well chance me while we are at it, since my confidence has been shattered.

Major: Psychology
UC GPA/Major: 3.9+, 4.0
IGETC: Completed
Pre-Requisites: Missing one pre-req from two sections (two anthro classes)
ECs: Leadership position in psychology club for over two years, lab research at another UC for a year
Employment: I held several jobs for a majority of my time at my CCC: statistics tutor, cell biology grader, and mentor to freshman and underrepresented students
Program affiliations: TAP, Phi Theta Kappa, Experience Berkeley Program, various other programs
Additional info: Delinquent teenager to aspiring scholar, first generation student, first in family to go to college, won several outstanding student awards/scholarships at my community college
Accepted: UCSB for Biopsychology, UCDavis for Neurobio
Rejected: UCLA
Pending: Berkeley

@Sincere1 What I have learned from other people’s experiences is that you really should be finishing up your pre-reqs by the time you apply. There will be many other qualified candidates just like you who would have done that. If you wait till Spring to complete pre-reqs, well then that gives the adcom a reason to doubt you, compared to the student whose performance you can conclusively measure at the time of deciding. Finishing pre-reqs the summer before transfer should really be avoided.

I’m nervous for you all haha
