@mcwolfie
Really? The holistic review page of berkeley is still saying applicants get review 2 or 3 times
http://admissions.berkeley.edu/selectsstudents
It’s the calm before the storm. Plus, we all knew Berkeley’s decision date in January so there’s not much to discuss.
Hey guys, I know its a little late and people are super anxious about their admission this Friday. I was wondering if someone could chance me, since CAL is my dream school
Major: Sociology
Overall GPA: 3.75
Major GPA:4.0
IGETC: Fall 2014
EC: Senator on school’s Associated Union, Volunteer for local hospital, Student organizer for American Red Cross, Student Delegate member for State Resolution, Statistics Tutor, Member of TAE/Honor’s Society
My personal statement: My first essay is how I overcame my depression by being an active member of my community college. The second was a comparison of wanting cure social issues to that of a doctor.
Applied: Columbia Cornell CAL UCLA UCSD UCSB UCSC
Accepted: UCLA UCSD UCSB UCSC
Waiting: CAL Columbia and Cornell
Rejected: N/A
What are my chances of getting in?
Does anyone know the average GPA for CAL?
Goodluck to everyone who applied

@Hiroaki0422 probably because a bunch of people got into UCLA so most feel there’s no need to wait for the other decisions. I was denied… I’m hoping a miracle from UCI & UCB xD
@Ihatebeingshort You seem like you have a pretty decent shot. Also do you go to Valley College? 'Cause I’m in TAE too, and as far as I know, that’s only a Valley thing.
@Hiroaki0422 I know, I was also just wondering why it’s so quiet over here! If any of you have spent time on the UCLA thread, you know these things can get crazy!
Is anyone else majoring in Gender Studies? I have no idea what my odds of getting in are… with UCLA at least they post the average admitted GPAs by major each so you can kinda chance-yourself. But with Cal its all a total mystery.
My stats: (I’ve found some solace looking at people’s states from past years so I thought I’d throw my up here too)
Major: Gender Studies – hoping to double major with Rhetoric (but I didn’t write that in the application)
Overall GPA: 3.61
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: finished this spring
ECs: Lots. But many are dance and performance-art based, so I’m not sure they help. Also lots of volunteer work for a local rape crisis center.
PS: Probably the strongest part of my application. Discussed working as a doula (childbirth assistant) in the first essay, and how I think a degree in gender studies will help me follow a career in social work or family advocacy. Spoke about growing up un-schooled in the second one.
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSB, UCSC
Accepted: UCLA, UCSB
Pending: UCB, UCSC
Rejected: N/A
Much luck to everyone waiting for Cal decisions! Thank god we’re in the homestretch.
3 days to go
good luck everyone!
@glondon, I’ve heard a down and dirty trick re GPA is to add a .1 GPA to the UCLA stats for Berkeley, and subtract .1 GPA for UCSD.
Does anyone know what the story is with the transfer unit cap? My gf is a transfer to CAL and her classmates are saying that you are guaranteed 4 semesters at CAL, no matter how many units you take. But from what I read from the L&S website, if you are a single major, you will be blocked from registering once you have exceeded 120 units/ double majors = 136. I am coming in with 70 units, so that only gives me room for a single major. I was planning to double major though, but the math doesn’t add up as I would need to complete 20+ upper division courses.
And I am not interested in staying in extra semester because of financial constraints.
Thanks! @Moshe1010
Oh my gosh, I hope so! I spoke with the UCB transfer adviser two months ago, so let’s cross our fingers that his information was incorrect.
I believe you are blocked once you reach 130 units, although you can do summer school. If you have 129 units, you can still enroll the next term.
I’m not sure of the double major count.
Hey @lindyk8 i think you mentioned that you’re a volunteer reader for the Leadership Scholarship, do you also do the Achievement and Kruttschnitt Aspire ones too?
@ShuttlepilotND I passed, at least for this year.
Anyone mind chancing me…?
Any HAAS applicants here?!? I feel like we are in some crazy ride that will never end, considering that intense supplement that was due Jan 30. Forever envious of anyone applying to Berks who didn’t apply to haas
Got into UCLA Bus/Econ but definitely waiting for results from my dream school…
There are few Haas hopefuls here like SPenceyboi and I.
What are your stats, SmartWorker?
GPA, EC’s etc
I’m in TAP (Transfer Alliance Program), 4.0 Media Studies major with all prereqs done (except one that didn’t articulate)… great ecs and fairly well-thought out essays. I heard an upward of 80% of TAP applicants get into Cal?
