[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] Iā€™m feeling happy. Berkeley is definitely one of my top choices, but Iā€™ll have to see what happens on March 31st to decide where Iā€™ll be spending my next four years.

Decision: REJECTED

Stats:
SAT Total: 2010, M: 670, CR: 640, WR: 700
ACT: 32
SAT Subject Tests: 740 USHist, 710 Lit, 660 MathII
UC GPA: 4.14
Rank: School doesnt rank
AP/IB classes: 7 AP classes total (8 AP tests)

Subjective:
Essays: Great. I put a lot of work into them.
EC highlights: Tennis, Lacrosse, lots of volunteering & community service, won an international poetry contest sophomore year, quite a bit more but I dont really remember (no real leadership roles though, even though I did administer a website for a while)

Location/Person:
State or Country: Michigan
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian Indian
Gender: Male
Other Factors, hook?: Upward grade trend (3.25 UW freshman year, 3.75 UW sophomore year, 3.85 UW junior year, but 3.5 UW 1st semester senior year, although with 4 AP classes), I felt my essays could have helped, and I do have an identical twin brother if that means anything.

Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: I honestly though I had a chance. I guess I underestimated Berkeleyā€™s OOS admissions process. This does sting a bit, just like any other rejection. But Iā€™m going to USC ayways, so it doesnt really matter. Fight On!!!

[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] I have no idea how I got in, now this is making me have to make a decision because I got in UCSD as a winter admit and I was starting to really get excited about San Digo and then I got this acceptance. I have also heard of how competitive and difficult Berkeley is which is discouraging me because I was really lazy in HS and I was hoping to do well in college, but I donā€™t think Iā€™m prepared to do what it takes to get really good grades at Berkeley. It was just so surprising as there are so many people that got rejected from my school after last year had about 25-30 people that actually went to Berkeley. I feel like those people were much more deserving than me and that my screwing around in high school makes me less deserving to go to Berkeley than so many others

Okay, so I was mad whenever I got rejected, so I never really got around to doing this. But I want this to be here for future generations. Good luck.

Decision: Rejected

[] ACT: 35
[] APs (including this yearā€™s): Calculus AB: 3, Iā€™m taking 8 tests this year thanks to independent study (I am the first at my school to do this), but I didnā€™t know until my applications were in, so I was able to notify a few, but not all colleges

[] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: Sophomore and Junior year GPAs. They were lower compared to my 1st, 2nd, and 7th semesters: 4.0 weighted.
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: THE ABSOLUTE WORST PART OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS WAS WAITING FOR UC IRVINE FOR A MONTH JUST TO BE REJECTED. Hehe. On the other hand, I gave UC San Diego a call and they gave me the exact reason I was rejected because they could pull up my file and look at it. It was GPA by the way. And yes, the ā€œchartā€ of point distribution is valid.

I knew what I was getting myself into, so Iā€™m cool with it. If you need help with preparing for your application or college or whatever, PM me and Iā€™ll be happy to help. I wish I had had some help. Perhaps I would have pushed my GPA a bit more.
