Official UC Berkeley Housing Thread :D

Hey guys,

So housing preferences are do soon... What are you guys putting down (and why)?

So far, I am considering
1) Wada double
2) Foothill double

1) Channing Single (I sleep early on school days so it might be nice to have a single)
2) Wada double
3) Channing double
4) Wada triple
5) Anything

Channing is just really nice! Wada looks like a lot of fun though… I don’t really know anything about Foothill. Is it nice?

Unit 2 cuz its next to TDX and i know ppl at TDX

Why Channing over Wada? I am turned off by the fact that you need to pay the whole year rather than just a school year.

I like Foothill because it is right on the edge of north campus as opposed to three blocks off of campus (Unit 2, Wada). I also appreciate the location because I am not a super big fan of Berkeley streets, and it seems like the area around Foothill is safer. I also hear it is quiet and where the engineering students stay. I am definitely looking for a fun but quiet environment at Berkeley.

1) Unit 3 Double
2) Unit 1 Double
3) Channing Double
4) Wada Double
5) Anything

Wada is in Unit 2 and Unit 2 looks like it sucks b a lls.

1) channing double
2) wada double
3) unit 1 double
4) unit 3 double
5) anything

at least i think those were my choices…and are we required to pay for the entire year for channing bowditch? i didn’t quite understand that, cuz my impression was that you didn’t have to, but they simply gave priority to those who did and so if you weren’t gonna pay the entire year your chances of ending up there would simply be very low…though nowhere did it ask how long u’d be there lol…

I totally have to do this ASAP!
I have no idea which resident hall’s/apartments/co-ops are cool or whatnot haha? How do you guys find this out?

Residence Unit 2

Residence Unit 3

Co-op’s

Off-Campus Apt or room for rent

When do we hear about our housing offer?
Mine:

 1. Unit 1 Double
 2. Unit 3 Double
 3. Unit 2 Double
 4. Unit 1 Suite
 5. Anything

I wanted to be in a unit for the social atmosphere…although Foothill sounds pretty nice after seeing it in person.
Also, check this out: [The Caliber Blog](http://blog.calibermag.org/2010/05/which-dorm-fits-you-series-part-iv.html)

The guy reviews all the dorms and has some pics…

Whao you guys are making me second guess my choices. ahah Why does Unit 2 look like it sucks?? And this Channing 12 month thing is really confusing…

Wada Double
Unit 2 Double
Wada Triple
Unit 2 Triple
Anything

Hoping for Wada because it’s pretty cheap and I like to cook.

So the deal on Cha-Bo is you’re more likely to get it IF you agree to the 12 mo. lease. If you’re gonna stay up at Berks for the summer, it’s not an issue, although some of my friends leave and leave it empty or sub-let their space to someone who’s up for summer session. That’s easier if you have a single – if not, you ought to okay it with your dorm mate. Even if you’re gonna leave for summer, and pick up again in the fall (or move), it’s really nice not having to spend all that time clearing out your room and dragging all your stuff back to your parents or put in storage or whatever.

Cost really isn’t that bad (I know, much more than costs of storage and hauling it out and back in), but frees up the time. Even on the year plan, it ends up costing less than 10 months in the dorms (especially foothill). And the singles, if you can get them, are about $100 more than a double. So you get your own little locked space.

If you’re in at Cha-Bo, you get first right of continuing the lease another year if you want instead of going back through the lottery.

So you don’t have to take the offer right. I mean i’m trying to move into the coops but I want this for a back up.

If you’re interested in the coops apply ASAP.

Already applied.

They said I have “pretty good” chances but i don’t wanna be caught out in the rain

After seeing the prices and reading up on the choices a bit more, I’m thinking:

1) Channing Bowditch Double
2) Wada Double
3) Channing Bowditch Single
4) Unit 1/2 Double
5) Any

I was interested in foothill, but I can’t afford $17k/year housing. I want an apartment to save money, and also because I have been hearing the dining halls are pretty average. I think I’ll still get a plan for convenience, however.

I think for my 4th choice, I like Unit 2 better because it seems like Unit 1 is too lively for me, but Unit 1 has without a doubt the better location (closer to campus and further from People’s park).

That park is freakin ghetto. That $hit at night must be scary.

Yeah, you are right about that.

[People’s Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](People's Park - Wikipedia)

I found this an interesting read, especially the “Bloody Thursday” tidbit. You can tell that this article was written by someone from the left as there doesn’t seem to be much objectivity, but the history of the park is fun.

Does anyone know if Unit 3 is under construction?

Also, how likely are we to get into our first or second choices?

unit 2 ftw

unit 2 is where the bo$$es stay
