[/ul]Other Factors:[ul]
[] Why you think you were rejected: Too geographically close to other good engineering schools in the Midwest, UCB probably thought she wouldn't attend if admitted - good call ;). UCB isn't her 1st choice, so her rejection hopefully freed a space for someone who really wants to go to UCB :D
[] Extracurriculars: Excellent, plus unusual legislative experience

[]Other universities admitted to: UIUC, Northwestern, Rose-Hulman, Purdue, UCLA (not as good for engineering, but warm... and sunny... :D)
[]Going to attend: ???? She'll have to start the pros/cons chart ;)
[li]Any other remarks/comments?[/ul]Wow - I feel bad for those who got their hopes up because of the unfortunate wording of email #3.
[/li]

Interestingly, D received a lengthy, detailed, personal welcome letter email from her major's department chair at UCLA right at about the same time UCB's decisions were posted. Freaked her out for a minute. ;)

I'm surprised at how holistic and seemingly random admissions was. There were a lot of well-qualified students that didn't get in, and vice versa. Well, I can sympathize with the rejectees as I just saw the word "sorry" on myBerkeleyapp.

[] Essays: I thought they were solid.
[] Hook (if any): None. OOS Student.

[] State/Country: Washington State
[] School Type: Very competitive (top 50 in both Newsweek and US News)
[] Ethnicity: Asian-American
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]Other Factors:[ul]
[] Major Strength/Weakness: I thought ECs would save my ass, but I guess they weren't the ones they were looking for. I spent much of my high school heavy in music. Weakness would be GPA and definitely SAT scores.
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: If I had any chance of being admitted, that was probably taken away by my being an OOS. I understand the quotas that they have to meet, so I can only shrug when they say how important state residency is. Nonetheless, I should have done more in HS.
[] Extracurriculars: Music: 4 yrs band, 2 years head drum major/conductor, 4 yrs jazz band, 2 yrs jazz combo, BCC jazz band, All-State/All-NW participant, and many more awards. Community service: 120+ hours, got an award for that, 100 hours at local middle school as a TA, 20 at a youth event, also hours not submitted for being camp counselor at my church's Vacation Bible School, as well as helping out at homeless feeds.

[li]Other universities admitted to: University of Washington (only other one I applied to)
[/li]

[li]Going to attend: University of Washington
[/li]

[*]Any other remarks/comments? I can't say that I'm not disappointed because I am a little bit. But I felt absolutely nothing when I read the word 'sorry'. I had expected this and so it didn't hit me hard at all. I had a pretty cruddy night last night and I thought that this news would only kill me more, but hopefully I'm okay.[/ul]

ok, one thing, regents isn't coming out till march 30th

Candidates entering from high school

"Candidates and alternates who would enter UC Berkeley in fall from high school receive notification after the Office of Undergraduate Admissions posts admissions results for freshmen on the My Berkeley Application page on the Undergraduate Admissions web site . We anticipate that date to be March 30th."

so why are you posting "Accepted with Regents!!!" and freaking everybody out! >:(

Cookiemon, anyone who was invited to do a regents interview has already been accepted. They haven't determined which ones will actually receive a scholarship, but the invitees were guaranteed a spot at Cal.

Hook (if any): Low-Income, if that counts
Location/Person:
State/Country: NV
School Type: public school in suburbs, failed to meet No Child Left Behind Standards for math though (don't laugh...no, I'm not kidding)
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Other Factors:
