Official UC Irvine Fall 2017 Transfer Applicant Thread

does anyone know what the difference is between the IGETC and the UC general education requirement? I thought the UC general education requirement was the IGETC…

I followed a UC pathway but am one course short from completing it… should I still select it?

Chance me?

Major: Business Information Management
Transferrable GPA: 3.66
IGETC: Done after Spring 2017
Prereqs: Missing two
Applied to UCI, SDSU, CPP, CSULB, and CSUN.
TAG: Applied, but will be denied for TAG since I’m missing the prereqs.
Work Experience:

  • Lead/Projectionist at a movie theater for 2 years. (Worked about 30 hours per semester.)
  • Currently an Intern at Snapchat Inc. (As of October 2016)
    EC:
  • Participated in the Economics Club for 2 semesters.
Personal Statements: Honestly, I BSed them on the day of the deadline, but I think they came out okay, but we’ll see.

UCI is the only UC that I applied to as it has always been my dream school. However, with two core prereqs missing and me bsing my personal statements, I don’t think i’ll get in, but let’s see.

@gosteelers123abc Stick with the IGETC. It saves you from lower division general education at the UCs. For example, it’s saving me from doing English 1A at Irvine to the best of my knowledge, since I only got a 3 on the AP English Language Exam.

Sometimes, pressing the “enter” button twice will make it appear separated. I did this when one blank line didn’t work. I know that it shifts.

I selected the UC Transfer Pathway as a Bus Admin. I would be missing the 2nd English composition (English 1A). It’s covered by the IGETC though, which will show up on your transcript, if you’re admitted and decide to go to Irvine. I would think that it’s better to pick a Transfer Pathway because if you left it blank, then they wouldn’t know exactly the closest major you’re going for. They could guess based on the coursework, but it’s better to give them a framework.

Sorry for the late reply. I didn’t see your comments until now.

IGETC eliminates any question about what counts for what with lower division. You can transfer and still do IGETC at your CC while at UCI on the side. I’m not sure what the UC path has, but it probably leaves some classes left to be fulfilled once you transfer. I took an extra history class, poli sci as part of IGETC for UC and CSU. Advantage is if you don’t get into a UC, you can go to a CSU, and many CSUs are great. Anyways, answer is I don’t know enough about your specific schools agreement, I say consult a counselor

Do I have a chance to get into UCI??? I heard UCI does not like UC-UC transfers

I have no idea, UC - UC is less common, but I know someone who did that successfully. UCI probably just prioritizes others over the UC-UC cause you are already in a UC and unless you have a good reason they expect you to do well at the one you are at I guess. Which one are you coming from if you feel comfortable answering that ?

I am currently enrolled in UC Merced, and I want to do mechanical engr with aerospace application (engine for aircrafts), so, I need to take courses in aerospace, but UC Merced does not offer any, and my adviser told me that school would not open courses (in aerospace) prior I graduate. Therefore, I have to transfer…

Now that’s a great excuse for a transfer, might be crazy enough to work.

Your major: Software Engineer/ Sec: Computer Science (Because CS is hard major to get in)

Your transferable GPA (UC Transferable courses are all that counts): 3.5-3.66(Depending on my grades at the end of the semester)

Current Units at the end of Fall Sem at SFSU: 37 Units --> Going to blaze through next sem with 25 Units.

Your major GPA: 3.5-4.0(Will take more major classes in Spring)

High School:
Volunteer outreach about Women in Stem
Volunteer collecting shoes
Robotics Team: Achievements to Regionals

Job at the end of Senior Year

Pre-rep: will be Completed in the Spring
IGTEC: Finished

College:
Taught abacus
Job (Stopped in August)

Schools applied for and the status of accepted, waitlisted, rejected, pending
Only applied UCI (because I’m about to fulfill requirements at the end of Spring) - Currently at SFSU (Wanting to transfer out + also taking community college classes with CSU classes)

Personal Statements (Were they reviewed by a counselor, tutor, or UCI transfer rep?) if so, did they come out ok?
They came out outstanding read by my English major friend.

I applied as a Software Engineer major but might want to double major with CS. What are my chances?

OMG finally a thread about this!!!
I’m transferring from a community college
Major: Pharmaceutical Sciences
GPA: around 3.79 right now. I’m hoping after this semester my GPA doesn’t drop to a 3.73… I got some bad english professors…
Transferable GPA: I’m still around the 3.7 range.
EC: I work two jobs, Honors program, Working on a biodiversity project with my bio classmates, professor, and UCSD.
IGETC: Will finish the last part of it in the spring semester
Prereqs: will complete by spring. I’m also doing a few additional courses for my major.
TAG: Yes.
Personal Statement: I had it checked over and shared to others. It sounds pretty good.
Applied to UCI, UCSD, UCR, and UCSB
UCR is my last choice because they don’t have any majors for me. UCSB is too far from home.
UCI is my first choice for my education. I’m constantly worrying everyday if I’ll get in because of my GPA. I’m borderline with a 91% in two english classes right now and I’m just fearing for any “B.”

Current Major: Computer Science
Applied Major: Computer Science and Engineering (I don’t why but it’s apparently the own CS related major choosable)
School: CSULB
GPA: around 3.7
I was put waitlist for freshman application as computer science major.

One quick question, how do I calculate UC transferable GPA since the ASSIST.ORG does not have CSULB to UCI.
Is it really tough for university students to transfer to UC Irvine?

Here is an article about your situation, it’s tricky to do a CSU - UC. This will take talking to a counselor for sure, and according to this you need to be done with your first half of the degree requirements, or basically all your lower division classes totaling 60 units. https://www.quora.com/Can-I-transfer-CSU-class-credits-to-a-UC

hey guys can anyone tell if i i have any kind of chance?
Major: Computer Science / Software Engineering
GPA: 3.19
Worked part time job
IGETC: Complete
Prereqs: Complete during spring?
(I don’t know if they care about major GPA but major GPA: 3.35)
I want to know if i have any chance to see if I should even bother due to the fact that I would need to take a specific class during Spring for UCI.This class would kind of mess up my schedule but I will definitely do it if I think I have a chance. UCI is by far my #1 choice but I really do not see how I can get in. If anyone can give me a % chance I would greatly appreciate it.

California community college transfer

Major: East Asian Cultures
Alt. Major: Chinese Studies
Transferable UC GPA: 3.14 One semester I fucked up and got 2 Cs and a D :((
Major GPA: 3.5
ECs: Part of school based volunteer program and I’m an elementary school tutor plus other work experience
IGETC: will complete by Spring
Major Prep: only 2/4 will be done by spring, I chose to focus on the IGETC
TAG: UCSB
Applying to: UCI (top choice), UCSB (tag), UCR, UNLV
Accpeted: UNLV

This the only college that I feel like is a reach school. I’m sure i’ll get into riverside and sb, and UNLV was just a safe school. But good thing is after this semester, my GPA went up to a 3.27, so who knows, maybe I’'ll get lucky. I feel like UCI would be perfect for me. The only drawback is that I wanted to major in linguistics, and they only offer it as a minor. But it’s fine for now. At this moment, I’m just happy I’ll be able to at least go to UNLV.

Hey everyone! UCI is my #1 choice.

See you guys throughout the next five months. Good luck everyone.

I’d say you have a good shot calbee, good luck, and happy new year

Thanks BackNSchool83. I remember you created the fall 2016 transfer thread and had a Fry avatar. I followed that thread a lot during my first year of college and still occasionally look through it.

Happy New Year to you too!
