I got accepted to UCLA but Cal has a holistic view on your application which makes me nervous cause I had crappy essays :(

@friednoodles, both UCLA and Cal use the holistic approach, so I wouldn’t worry too much. that being said, the holistic approach is used primarily for borderline candidates, i.e. they don’t read every applicant’s essay. if your STATS render you a strong candidate, it is likely they won’t read every word of your essay; if your stats render you an unequivocally terrible candidate, they likely won’t read every word of your essay either.

Hey guys, Glad to see many people in math major and also from SMC lol. Gl to everyone and hopefully, we can meet up in Cal.

@beyond how do we order transcripts at smc?

Berkeley give me a chance Please!!! 3.8 poli econ :S

@Acuvue
davis is a fantastic school. i just don’t like that dusty climate up there. some kids who were accepted to UCLA are still considering going to davis instead of UCLA. and i have some friends who went there—and they loved it.

Sorry philosoup, i am not sure, i’ve never ordered transcripts before, but I think it should be very easy to do so.

Looking at the threads from last year it seems that people were getting emails informing them of a financial aid package. Does anyone know around when they started getting these emails? Am I being crazy?

I have no emails and I’m a little concerned.

@Maninder: Berkeley not suppose to sent out financial aid email earlier than acceptance date, if they do, usually 1-2 days ahead of time.

I see, thanks for the prompt reply moon9. It needs to be Friday already

@philosoup
i am attending a different CC, but the admissions and records office has little forms by the cashier’s window and we fill them out and pay a small fee, 5.00 each, and the school sends the transcripts to the school. i also had my IGETC certification sent out, but that was free. hmm. need to have GED certificates sent as well, those are 7.00 dollars. but UCLA did not even request one. i will have it sent anyway.

@jdom24 @aust1nku Thanks for the help.

@philosoup You can order transcripts from SMC online for a fee and $5 per transcript. Or you can order in person and phone or whatever whatever. Look up “smc transcript” on google. I just ordered 2 transcripts online and it cost me around $15.

For those asking at what time decisions will be posted, last year they were posted at 4 pm. For 2010 and 2009 they were posted at 3 pm. I looked at those years threads to find out.

5 days!! :slight_smile: I’m super excited/nervous. I want to know noooooow.

I’m really hoping they send out the financial aid info early again this year. :)

@pinkpoetry
did they send email financial aid info, or just post it online and people who were taking summer classes (only) could see it? oh boy. just a few more days.

@tedbell
thanks for the info.

@tedbell thanks for the heads up!

I’m going to call admissions tomorrow and ask if I’m in. I’ll tell them that I’m too busy to check on Friday and it will be helpful if they just let me know now. If that doesn’t work I will offer to take the person to lunch at which time they can tell me in person if I got in because they might be worried about the call being recorded.

^ if lunch does not work, offer them small unmarked bills.

Haha. I would say that they’re probably not done reviewing apps, but I really feel like they’re done and just doing the we’re last since most people want to come here thing.

I think they’re done. If not then they’re done with 99% of them. They are just waiting until Friday so they don’t get a million calls from rejects asking why the next day. Someone out there knows if I’m in or not and I am willing to buy some Fat Slice or Blondies for that information.
