<p>Is there no UChicago 2012 Fall Transfer thread?</p>
<p>I can't seem to find one. Only earlier years' threads.</p>
<p>Is there no UChicago 2012 Fall Transfer thread?</p>
<p>I can't seem to find one. Only earlier years' threads.</p>
<p>Well the deadline is passed.
I didn’t apply though.</p>
<p>What did you say was between living and dreaming?</p>
<p>I applied. Dunno how I feel about it, just keeping my options open.</p>
<p>Yeah. I really hope they take me. It’s one of my first choices.</p>
<p>applied.^^</p>
<p>What are you guys’ stats if you don’t mind sharing?</p>
<p>I should have checked the transfer statistics more carefully. At first, I thought they had a transfer acceptance rate of 14%. The actual number is around 5%.</p>
<p>I will be rejected. They can have my application fee as a sign of good will.</p>
<p>I’ve seen from a few sources online that it was around 11-12% for transfers.</p>
<p>You guys want to do the stats/major thing?
Let’s post our essays</p>
<p>I would like to see your essays.
Hopefully some of you did the “between living and dreaming” essay.</p>
<p>I didn’t apply though, the admissions are extremely competitive for Chicago. I believe the rate is around 5%</p>
<p>Here are my stats.</p>
<p>I have applied as a transfer physics major.</p>
<p>Community College GPA: 4.0
(72 semester units: Calc 1-3, Diff-EQ, Linear Algebra, Java, Gen Chem 1&2, O Chem 1, Biology 1, Philosophy, English 1&2, Italian 1, Calc-based Physics 1&2, Anthropology, etc.)</p>
<p>Letters of Rec: Physics 1&2, Differential Equations/Calc 3, and Gen Chem 2 instructors, very, very good.</p>
<p>EC’s & Accomplishments:
-Math/Physics tutor for 1 semester
-ESL instructor at local library for adult learners on Saturdays (volunteer, 6 months)
-100th percentile on American Chemical Society’s nationally standardized exam in general chemistry
-Offered and accepted internship for 10 weeks this summer with The Department of Energy at Fermilab in Chicago (particle physics research laboratory) that is associated with The University of Chicago (I hope this REALLY helps my case LOL)
-Phi Theta Kappa</p>
<p>CommonApp Essays:
I think all 3 are well and clearly written. Mentioned my planned internship with DOE at Fermilab which is associated with UChicago and how Fermilab is a perfect place for me to intern because it closely parallels my interests and if I go to UChicago I may be able to continue my involvement with Fermilab along with getting superb training from them. </p>
<p>I chose Essay Option 5 and reused the prompt and essay I wrote for the University of California schools because I thought it was appropriate and explained my interest in my major nicely.</p>
<p>IDK where you guys are getting 5% I’ve only seen above 10%'s from places online. Here is one of the sources that says 14.4%.</p>
<p>[Transfer</a> Acceptance Rates at US News Top 50 – The Transfer Book](<a href=“http://thetransferbook.com/stats/]Transfer”>Transfer Acceptance Rates at US News Top 50 - Transferweb)</p>
<p>Der3k7 you look like a strong applicant.
But doesn’t Chicago only take 60 credits maximum? Meaning your other 12 credits might go to waste.</p>
<p>I’m not sure. I’ll check. But I won’t mind really if I lose some credits and have to take them there.</p>
<p>I don’t see anything on their transfer credit page stating a 60 credit maximum. It says they’re evaluated on a 1:1 basis.</p>
<p>And the things I’m hoping that won’t hurt me too much is that my courses are primarily math/science and my high school and SAT performances were not great.</p>
<p>ah…guess that I have to post it again…</p>
<p>Current University: Vanderbilt University
Fall courses:Cal 3, intermediate microecon, Java, Composition
Current GPA: 4.0 out of 4.0
Spring semester: Data Structure and C++, Mathematical Statistics, Existential Fictions, Linear Algebra, Intermediate Macro, Statistics Lab
(All sopho and junior standing). Mid-term report: 4.0
Rec: one from math professor and one from econ professor. Both are really good–I am the best student in their classes. </p>
<p>High School (international):
GPA: 3.8 (GPA deflation Chinese high school. no 4.0 in grade because we count 100 as a 4.0 and 3.6 as a 90. 3.8 means my average of all scores is 95.)
HS Rank: 15/570
SAT: 2230
SAT 2: Math level 2: 800, Chemistry: 780, Physics: 780
AP(all 5): US history, Micro, Macro, Cal BC, Chemistry.</p>
<p>EC’s:
Research assistant at Vanderbilt Medical Center, statistics work
Vanderbilt Mobile Applications Team
Vanderbilt Computer Science Club
Vanderbilt Math Club
Vanderbilt Student Volunteer for Science
Internship at a consulting company, statistics and analysis
President & Co-founder of a Volunteer Society, interviewed by national TV
Captain of secondary school debate team
Journalist at a News Agency, several articles on national newspaper
Public Sector at an NGO</p>
<p>Awards, Achievement, and Recognition:
ACM-ICPC regional final
Best representative in MUN
Best debater in regional contest
Vanderbilt Dean’s list
AP scholar with distinction
High school model student</p>
<p>Reasons: my major is math and I am very interested in applied math and statistics. But Vandy does not offer a statistics major nor an applied math major. Moreover, for my secondary major Econ, Vandy does not have a good connection of econ and math. And since I want to start my own enterprise after graduation, Nashville, a small city in the south, cannot provide me with enough international environment and internship/job opportunities. </p>
<p>Financial Aid Needed?:
No</p>
<p>Has anyone received an email with an applicant portal or anything? I haven’t gotten an email from the university and it’s making me a bit worried.</p>
<p>Yeah I’m able to go on to their site or whatever and check my status of my admissions and financial aid applications and even upload additional materials.</p>
<p>I applied for tranfer! Good luck everyone.</p>
<p>My stats:
Attending: an Illinois, Chicago-area Community College
GPA: 4.0
Credits from my current college at time of trasnfer: 49
HS GPA: 3.4 weighted, 3.2ish unweighted (eek)
*note, my HS GPA demonstrates an upward trend, increasing steadily and topping out at a perfect 4.0 my senior year.
ACT: 31, 32 superscore
ECs/Awards: Mandarin Chinese student (non-credit through my school), work at a bank averaging 31 hours/week (since senior year of HS), running a drive for a local charity, Phi Theta Kappa member.
High School ECs/awards: AP Scholar, IL state scholar, Model Congress with Don Manzullo and Dennis Hastert, Anti-drug club member, Breast Cancer walk volunteer (donation counter), part time job from age 16 on averaging 20 hours a week.
APs: two 5s and one 4.</p>
<p>First generation college student.</p>
<p>Also, my mother has been in and out of jail/prison since I started high school, which I talked about extensively in the common app essay (since it affected my HS performance).</p>
<p>I chose to make my own essay prompt as well.</p>
<p>UChicago’s acceptance rate was 4-5% last year…there is no point in posting your stats, after a certain point it really doesn’t matter. The essays seem to mean a lot for UChicago, and I don’t think a 2400 SAT 4.0 GPA guy will get in if he doesn’t have the right “fit” for the school</p>
