Hevydevy, I applied to these universities as well. I heard that Brown will release its decision on the 12th. Hopefully UChicago will follow suit.

Ah, very cool. Well, good luck with both schools.

Matched (accepted) via QuestBridge.

Does that mean you got in or the program thinks you have a decent shot?

Just saw. That’s great. Congrats dude.

Congrats! Want to post your stats? hevydevy if you get matched via questbridge you are in, and I think it’s with a full ride too.

um, on my css profile thingy,

uchicago’s supposed to be 12/24!

That’s the financial decision date - but that means that the acceptance notification date is most likely 12/21 or the weekend following

So maybe it’ll be Monday the 17th? Last year it was Monday the 19th.

Surprised no has commented yet on the UChicago decision coinciding with the Mayan apocalypse…now wouldn’t that be unfortunate?

that is because the “apocalypse” is the 21st not the 24th which is uchicago’s current tentative decision release date.

At unicameral2013’s request – and for posterity! …

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2340 (770 M, 770 CR, 800 W)
[] ACT:
[] SAT II: 2300 (800 MII, 750 Chem, 750 USH)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): We’re only given weighted GPAs, and they’re out of 100. Mine is ~98.
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): My school doesn’t rank students, though I’m probably #2 in a class of ~120
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Three 5s (Stats, Calc AB, USH)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: The only important ones are Calc BC, Macro, and Physics B
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Philosophy club (founder and president) for two years, school tutoring all four years, peer mentoring for two years (wrote a guide for the lowerclassmen which was presented to everyone – I think this was my “key” EC (and it was a leadership role, btw)), hobby computer programming for three years
[] Job/Work Experience: iOS development for a company
[] Volunteer/Community service: Shelving books in a library, an activity involving raising awareness for world hunger
[] Summer Activities: 4 Educational programs at college campuses during the past 3 summers… Took science and philosophy classes
[] Essays: Clever, I thought. Evidently, the admissions officers liked them. For what it’s worth, I chose one of the Questbridge prompts for my Common App essay, the “invest a past for a present you’ve received” prompt, and completed the optional “essay.”
[] Teacher Recommendation: I got one from my Trig, AP Stats, and AP Calc AB teacher, and one from my school’s assistant principal, who is also a teacher. I imagine they were good.
[] Counselor Rec: I imagine it was good.
[] Additional Rec:
[] Interview: Good. She asked very little about me, spoke mostly about her experiences at UChicago, and gave me a logic puzzle (which I did not successfully solve, and evidently did not need to!).

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): NY
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: W
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: $34k
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Questbridge Prep Scholar, Questbridge Finalist, first generation student
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores, grades, essays, and Questbridge.
[] Weaknesses: I’m a white male! Also, ECs.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Scores, grades, course load (almost no one else takes 3 APs per year at my school, and I’m the only student in Calc BC). I put a lot of effort into my essays and took several risks with them, just as the prompt suggests. My recommendations and my income also played a role in this.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was admitted through Questbridge, so nowhere.

[/ul]General Comments: Regarding this post, I think I may have forgotten an EC or two – I can’t remember at the moment. Aside from that, I feel extremely lucky, and I’m so relieved to not have to worry about college for the rest of the year. Good luck, everyone! Cheers to the Class of 2017!

I’m hoping that UPenn is feeling generous with its EA apps this year. Some of my classmates who are applying to UC EA are also applying to Penn ED, so if they get in, I’ll have a better chance for Chicago ;)

suluclacdna, how did you get your decision back so early? I don’t really know what this whole Questbridge thing is, do they guarantee acceptances to qualified people?

Oh, and congratulations for getting in to Chicago!

@esimpnoxin: Questbridge is a scholarship program geared towards low-income (and minority) students. Nothing is guaranteed – the colleges you rank for the National College Match review your application as if you apply regularly, except that they decide earlier, are aware of your Questbridge (non-)Finalist status, and may even read your Questbridge application (which requires much more writing than the Common App, but is very similar to it). The whole process gives them more information about your possible “extenuating circumstances.” They tell Finalists whether they’re matched on November 30, so I found out yesterday. It’s a very early process. You can find out more about it via Google.

Also, thanks for the congratulations!

@hevydevy and unicameral2013: Yes, I was accepted, and yes, a Questbridge Match comes with a full ride.

@suluclacdna: Congratulations! Good luck with the rest of your decisions!

Also, is the CSS profile for UChicago due on the 24th of December?

@tz2013 The CSS profile for EA applicants was the 1st of November, however I submitted mine the 19th of November and my admissions counselor said it was fine.

@suluclacdna

Congratz man! I’m a fellow QB finalist, I can’t help but feel happy for you Who knows, maybe I’ll join you once I find out in the coming weeks.

Thanks, everyone! Again, good luck to you all.

I just realized I wrote “invest” instead of “invent” in my stats post. Oh well! :)

when will UChi post their decision date? the 24th?? also, congratz @suluclacdna :)
