I thought my interview went well right after I left. We talked about why I wanted to go there, she studied the same major I want to, I asked her about the sorority she rushed for. Just normal questions. We talked about my high school, and the fact that we both studied abroad in Spain.
Now I can’t help but compare it to everyone’s on here…It just seems so average. We didn’t discuss British TV Shows (I could’ve gone on at length). We didn’t talk about anything mind blowing. Yet I do feel like I really showed her my passion for the school.

I’m at a school with a pretty funky grading system and I’m wondering what people think the minimum scores/unweighted GPA are to even be considered at Chicago. I’m a good student and I’m absolutely in love with the school, which I articulated in my essays, but my stats are unconventional and seem to be below anything that gets admitted.

my interview went great! it was roughly 45 min and he only kicked me out b/c that was the time limit for each interview. i had mine on campus, so i was so inspired while at the interview. he didn’t ask me any weird questions like i was expecting, either. at the end he said i would be “perfect for uchicago” and said I should go see the Oriental museum (b/c i’m such a history buff). plus in the interview he said my parents did a great job raising me. which is a pretty good interview i think (:

michelle do you live in Chicago? Or did you visit and do the on campus interview?

oh yea mine said during the interview and in a subsequent email conversation that i would be a “good fit for chicago”… made me feel so good
if only he were an admissions officer…

…
I am scared and terrified. you guys are competitive…
but I am also getting tired of comparisons…
so I’m just putting this to rest till it comes around…
wherever i end up being, it would be the best place for me…
…
good luck to u all.

My interview was horrible. =\

He made me ask him question through out the whole thing and acted like it was a trip down memory lane. I have absolutely NO IDEA what he could have written about me because he didn’t even ask me the standard “tell me a little about yourself.” The first thing out of his mouth is “so, do you have any questions?”

Worst interview out of 3.

my interview went great, I had mine on campus and I was supposed to be kicked out after 45 minutes but we lost track of time and random tangents took us to an hour. My interviewer was really shy, but I feel that I still was able to touch on all the points that I felt were needed to be adressed. The questions were pretty standard and I had just met a big professor before I went in, so I totally gushed about how great the faculty was. I felt that it went good, maybe not great but good nonetheless.

Seems like this year’s EA acceptance rate is going to be around 15%. Last year they admitted 1532 applicants out of 8698 EA applicants. This year, EA applicants are slightly higher than 10,000. I can’t imagine number of applications for UChicago in 5 years. It would be either EA acceptance rate go down below 10% or replacing EA to SCEA or ED, I assume with such dramatic increase in EA pool.

Hi people…
This has lingered in my head for a few days so I think some advice or insight will be helpful…
Here is the thing… I’m an international student from china who’ve studied in singapore since secondary school. (in case you don’t know, singapore’s official language is English and it adopts an English medium education) Anw, I’ve been told that UChicago requires TOEFL for all int’l applicants unless you’re like British, Canadian (well just clearly not Singapore) etc. One thing to note is that the University is quite picky, or shall I use strigent, on this issue. Much more stringent than most other top unis. My friends and I know very few people who got away with it in the past. But TOEFL was not really available in S’pore, and I spent my whole Nov taking A-level exams. I submitted my application anyway and thought that I would negotiate with them for other ways to prove my language proficiency if they raised doubts.
so I waited but no e-mail, no seeking of clarification, nothing. I began to worry that it suggested that they didn’t really want me at all… like they’d decided not to take me anyway so they didn’t bother to get the application complete? :(

My interview went awfully well.
He came up to me in Starbucks while I was working on my Extended Essay, so he naturally asked what it was about. “Objective morality as proven through hedonism and its impact on the belief of a deity” was nice answer to be able to give.
We talked about school and IB. I was upfront about how bad my grades are and he despaired with me over the current system of measuring students’ knowledge. Then we talked about travel for a bit. We talked about my application essay, which impressed him a lot (seriously, he spent a few minutes going “wow, that’s just so clever, wow” after I told him what I did).
At the end he said that I was the first student he’s interviewed who has been engaged and passionate and not just looking at UChicago to check off a “applied to a top-tier school” box on their mental to-do list. He wished me luck and then gave me a follow up email that mentioned how much I impressed him and how well I’d fit in at UChicago.

I can only assume that helped my app, which I desperately need given my dirt-poor GPA.

Although Chicago strongly recommends 104+ TOEFL, such score is not necessary for admission. However, you do need some kind of TOEFL score and it would be troublesome if you didn’t take TOEFL at all unless you offer special explanation and get excused (I have no idea how this operates tho). I’m not a Chinese nor a Singaporean, so I’m not an expert in TOEFL system in Singapore, but I do believe it is available in singapore. I could find various website about TOEFL in Singapore and couldn’t find any reference to the part where TOEFL is not available. As far as I know, internationals who have not reached minimum TOEFL score (not recommended score) or not submitted TOEFL score are automatically rejected as incomplete applicants.

I meant it was not available at that time, around Nov. to make it worse centres in Malaysia are fully booked until end of the year and one friend of mine has to fly to Thailand to do it in Dec or Jan.
Well most unis exempt S’pore students from TOEFL. that’s why I say UChicago is stringent T_T… I’ve just been too busy to do all this things. sigh… But shouldn’t they have sought clarification from me or asked me to complete the materials even if they decided to reject my EA or relocate me to RD pool?

I honestly don’t know. Relocating you to RD pool would be a deferral(?) so it’s obscure. But because TOEFL test is available on every month, I don’t think an excuse of time-shortage can be effective. I know an international student who was deferred from university of notre dame EA because he didn’t submit $200,000 balance sheet to prove his family is capable of affording the university for full 4 years. I’m definitely not certain this but in my thoughts, rejection is more likely unless you specifically requested to change your application to RD. Now that EA admission process is, basically over, and only being confirmed for the final decision release, it will be very hard to change your app to RD.

Ok I see your point… It’s just weird that I wasn’t even asked?.. But thanks for responding to my question really. You are an applicant too right? All the best to you!! :)

DAWN OF THE FIRST DAY
168 hours remain

You usually do not have to take the toefl if your SAT reading section is over 650 or if the primary langauge at ur secondary school is english. And the admission office would contact u if you had anything missing. I got contacted by notre dame that they were missing my financial certificate:-) So no worries
