OFFICIAL UChicago EA Class of 2017 Results Thread!

3.9, 31 ACT
I’m thinking deferred. I have a decent chance of getting admitted because of killer extra curriculars and the fact that I studied abroad my sophomore year. I’m also taking 8 APs this year alone. But my essays were less than stellar. I’m not sure

According to the website, UChicago will release the EA results on 18th, next Tuesday afternoon via email…too long to wait. It is killing.

95 avg, 1540 SAT. (and 800 in writing…I wish they cared!) idk if I’m going to get outright rejected in this round, since my essays and recs were strong, but I don’t particularly think I’ll be admitted either…

35 ACT 4.2 GPA, internship doing cancer research (at the recognition dinner, they had a kid who had been in the program the summer before I was, and he was going to UChicago), Class President, Editor in Chief of the school’s newspaper (which we just started this year) volunteer work at a hospital (including playing piano at a memorial service) and helping out at my town’s library when it first opened, National Merit, National Honor Society, Susan Cook House Student of the Month, Illinois State Scholar, part time job as a sales consultant at a tuxedo shop, Scholastic Bowl Team Captain (I led us to a conference championship last year), concert band, pep band, school madrigal performances, and a leader position in my church. I worked with my school to get online AP courses for myself this year, and worked with my Spanish teacher to make an AP test-prep curriculum for myself. I have really good relationships with all the faculty at my incredibly tiny school, so I feel like I had really strong recs. I feel like my Uncommon Essay was weak though, so I’ll probably be deferred.

I know I sound like a goober fishing for compliments, but do you guys think the fact that I studied abroad will help a lot during college admissions? I didn’t worry about it at the time but now I’m wondering what weight it may have on my app

As for me I have 710M 650CR (which is good for an international). I have perfect GPA and really cool essays. The only thing that I think is between me and UChicago is the financial aid I ask for :S

I think I’d be deferred too, unless they decide to be more generous… who knows?!

@predragpepi, they are need-blind in their admissions process. The financial aid you ask for has no bearing on your admissions decision.

740 cr 750 math, several ec, national merit, ap scholar, top 1% (3/545), ib diploma, decent essays, hoping for the best

@CJohnH they arent for international students :(

650 is def low for internationals. It makes sense if u look at the competition among internationals. i got 740 in CR but it doesn’t seem any higher than other internationals in my level

I think that I will get rejected most likely, with a little chance with acceptance. I have a 3.2 gpa w/ 26 act. So very weak hard numbers. My extracurriculars and impact I’ve had on my community is very unique. I have held two financial internships: one at a financial advising and the other at a financial strategies firm. I have started a non-profit to help those people in my community during the recession, by raising money and food. I have held a community leadership position in the Obama fampa

I have started a non-profit to help those people in my community during the recession, by raising money and food. I have held a community leadership position in the Obama campaign. I have tremendous work experience as I have held successful marketing positions all throughout high school. I also tutor both inside and outside (small business) of my household. I think I rocked my essay, but don’t think ill get in. I don’t think I will get deferred, either accepted or rejected (most likely rejected) what do you guys think?

I think you have a good chance of being deferred. First, chicago’s deferral rate is quite high and they only ‘consider’ scores. I’ve seen a girl who was dederred only with 22 act. so don’t sweat it!

D’s case was simple: Brown ED binding with PLME only; no FA involved; no reason to delay withdrawal; confirmation email received within an hour of the emailed request.

Does anyone know if they take into account listing them as your first choice for National Merit? I did, but I’m starting to think maybe I should have listed a school that offers National Merit Scholarships, so that in the (likely) event that I am not accepted, I can get a full ride at ASU or something.

CJohnH, I think you just need to declare your first choice by May 1 next year. You should be accepted to ASU or something university first, then designate it as your 1st choice. BTW you should become NMF first, but no doubt you will be :)

PLME21maibe, thanks for the withdrawal. You are generously handing over your potential spot to someone in the waitlist.

I hope every accepted ED people withdraw their applications to UChicago. Should we better visit every top ED schools’ thread and ask their kind withdraws? ^^

Oh yeah, I forgot that I can still change my top choice school. University of Arizona gives Finalists an iPad. So that’s cool.

1570/1600 4.35 (idk UW sorry) world champion athlete (lol)+other ECs. I think I’ll at least get deferred, I will be a bit surprised if I get outright rejected.

34 ACT, 104.88 GPA (weighted), really good essays, but they weren’t the typical UChicago creative “where’s waldo” type of thing. I did the choose your own question on which college course I would like to add, if I could be allowed to add one, to UChicago’s already extensive range of courses. Because of the essay, I think it’s either going to be a total miss or perfect, I’m not expecting a deferral.
I’m hoping for an acceptance, and then a decent aid package so I can actually afford to go! (I hope)!

my UW GPA is 3.5 and my ACT is 33, SAT 2220. i also interned for a UChicago professor while I went to the Summer session this year. She wrote me a great letter of rec to the school, so maybe that will help me get in? Any opinions…?
