Dothe decisions come out at the same time as the check your decision emails, or do the emails come out later? basically I’m wondering whether I should wait for a email or keep refreshing my uchicago account?

This is what the CC moderators say on one of the pinned threads at the top of the College Essay forum. It is not intended for posting actual essays, although certainly some people ignore the moderator information and do so. I stand by the thought that everyone should come up with their own essay content, and posting essays before everyone has applied interferes with that process.

I have to say, of the essays I have seen posted (and I have not every gone through the essay threads, but people do post them occasionally in other spots), 99% of the time I think the essay writer has an inflated view of the quality of their essay. Makes me feel sorry for the ad coms. :)

Wow, you see no ethical issue with this? Especially at U of C, I think they want YOUR way of thinking about and approaching the world. Or they wouldn’t have such unusual prompts. My kid stewed over the prompts for several weeks. Considered and discarded several ideas to different prompts before settling. But I know she did it by examining the prompts in terms of her own interests and life, not by picking over other people’s answers to the same questions.

I’m talking about UChicago’s Post Your Essay thread started in 2007. My opinion still stands, so I won’t repeat what I said earlier. And I mean, many kids turn to various resources to get inspired, including reading books and talking to others about their essays for other schools. There’s potential in those instances to plagarize/reference a little more than they should. I think the thread does more good than harm, although you’re right, there is potential to steal ideas (I’ve explained how it would backfire on the thief) and we would probably all sirvive without those types of threads. But we all have our opinions on here, so no problem! :)

Ethical issue?
If I talk to my siblings about their past essays or read a book of poems to get inspired after being stuck, I’m violating ethics or morals? If I read accepted essays to see what kind of quality they present, I’m not as morally righteous as the students who sat in their rooms alone for weeks? Hmmm…I don’t think so.

I see we have conflicting opinions on this. I won’t flood the thread with a debate, so I’ll let this be. No big deal.

^this is last year’s EA decision thread. Quite interesting imo to see the range of students lol. I wanna get in so badly!!! this is my top choice but very few 4.0 W (out of 5) have gotten in :-/ Oh well. I hope uChicago can forgive me after seeing my testing/ECs/Essays. uChicago is my top choice.

If people want to post their essays, they should be aware of potential consequences. Personally, I think posting the essay thread helped me see what kind of essays worked and what kind of essays didn’t work. I’m going to post my Waldo one after the RD deadline to help future applicants.

@ tremont007
i received one during the summer so i don’t think receiving t-shirts mean that you will get in…btw, i’m waiting for EA decision too
Good luck :D

yeah, no. i know some EA applicants have received UChicago t-shirts in the mail very recently. i wasn’t sure if this was any indication of their acceptance; standard “welcome to the mailing list” procedure… thoughts?

Wait, they’re sending out MORE tshirts!? or do you mean from before? cuz if they’re sending out tshirts now it could be part of the acceptance “package”/letter that ppl get o.0

it’s probably nothing, but if you look at the UChicago PSAC Facebook page, someone posted that they had received a t-shirt. okay. it’s probably nothing. breathes deeply refreshes application status

I found that UChicago’s mailout times can be sketchy. I recieved two tshirts a long while ago (maybe a couple weeks after the summer was over). On the Tumblr tag a lot of kids got tshirts just recently (Novemberish). I never got a pennant; totally want one. I just think the timing is weird more than anything, and for anyone who’s already been accepted, I wouldn’t expect any more mail until the first big acceptance envelope comes in. Just my thoughts.

I have heard the accepted get scarves. I’m down with that. :)

Pay attention to twitter, if you have it. Last year UChicago tweeted the announcement that decisions were ready. AND they sent an email. My daughter was in the bathroom when she checked her twitter feed and saw the announcement Never have I seen her tear out of the bathroom so fast haha!

^^Yes they do! But it’s pretty short and not very useful for actual wearing so…

You can also check here on the hour/half hour- I remember the email was sent out well after RD Decisions were released but as soon as they came out I found out here!
