@rldmsdl12 I had the same problem along with many of the people on this thread. Its common for that to happen; i have the conformation for the tax return but, uchicago indicates that it was not recieved. I sent it in immediately after (within a day) and it now shows up as recieved.

I really think they had some trouble with transferring tax docs for a lot of people who already faxed their returns weeks ago. That is what they implied when I talked to them. So just fax them again if your logon shows that something is missing.

Magentaturtle, there is a form on the Financial Aid website that you are supposed to use as a cover page for faxing the returns. Here is a link to that form and faxing instructions:

https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/pdfs/FinAidFaxSheet.pdf

And yes, you have to fax federal returns for 2011 both parents. Your parents might file taxes jointly (in that case there is only one return). Or if they file separately (or are divorced), both need to be faxes. If they have remarried, need to include the new spouse’s return as well. And if any of 'em own a business, those have to go too. I think between my ex-H and I we faxed 50+ pages to them.

Ugh this website makes me so nervous…

chill chill i’m going for the movie life of pi now. chill ppl!
it’s all destined

@RulemAll

yeah you can scan and email it. Remember to include the cover page and encrypt the file.Send the password to the encryption in a separate email and email both things to college-aid@uchicago.edu

The first time I sent my financial aid documents (around late October), I mailed them but it showed they didn’t receive it, so I emailed them the financial aid documents like a week ago and it took 2 days for it to show on my account.

So…they’re missing my tax report…and they didn’t contact me…so I’m rejected…crying. Preparing my heart for the next week or so. When the actual decision comes.

@rldmsdl12

You never know really. The calls just started coming in recently so they may still be going through the list like other people have been saying.

This thread is aliiive
with the sound of freaaakouts.

Typical…

They do FA in batches. An EA admitted student might not get looked over for aid until after the decisions come out. Basically, you can get accepted without the FA office knowing about you (for just a bit). To the people that are panicking: stop. It’s not worth the stress. You can still make it.

I’m so confused about this FA discussion - my federal income tax return and profile were listed as recieved on the 5th and 6th with the little green checkmark the day after they were sent in… is that supposed to be a bad sign? Or is it in accordance with all this hopeful talk?

Bart- there are no definitive bad signs right now. Having everything submitted is always good.

I don’t think FA for US domestic applicants doesn’t indicate anything about admission result. They are need-blind for domestic applicants which means two offices are separated. Perhaps, for internationals, FA email may mean sth but I’m confident they are not for U.S applicants.

^Some ppl received calls or emails that their financial aid documents weren’t received (ppl speculate that only ppl accepted would get the calls bc they dont build financial aid packagess for everyone), which led to others panicking that they didnt get accepted b/c they didnt get calls/emails about their financial aid documents.

“To determine if this is only for accepted students, is there someone who KNOWS that they did not turn in a financail aid form and got it marked as reicieved? If there is, then it makes sense that the missing doc indicates an acceptance on the other hand if there is no such person, then we can assume that there is no correlation.”

I know for a fact I didn’t turn mine in, but how does this explain an acceptance? It could still just be the university going through missing materials.

aaah wait. i didn’t get it marked as received, i just got that email.

“To determine if this is only for accepted students, is there someone who KNOWS that they did not turn in a financail aid form and got it marked as reicieved?
@wharton17 I’m confused as to how this would indicate an acceptance? If you were accepted wouldn’t they want to get your tax returns, therefore marking them as missing?

That’s what I’m trying to say. But first, we need to know if that is even the case or if legitly our docs were missing. To determine this, if there was someone who knew that they did not turn in thier docs and uchicago marked them as recieved on thier portal, then that means that person was rejected and those who have the missing check mark may have been those who were accepted. On the other hand, if there was nobody who forgot to turn in thier doc and got the checkmark, then it would mean that there must have been a mishap at the office and it has nothing to do with acceptance.

Oh, I think you are all WAY overthinking this. They can’t really process thousands of FA applications at once. And I think a lot of the apps had these issues with missing docs this year due to some kind of systems issue. Also, I think they just cut over to some new system for tracking these (which is why no info was available for a while on the status of these docs after EA apps were due). They are probably running pretty hard just to figure out what is missing and who they need to notify. But they have someplace to look first before they contact you (a person did it for me while I was on the phone with them). So I think they are just working their way through all the missing ones, figuring out if they are REALLY missing, then contacting people. I do not think it is any indication of your acceptance status.

@Rldmsdl12: please help us out and check your uchicago portal for the checkmark at the bottom of the page for the document that you may have been missing. Either PM me or post on here. The rest of us are totally freaking out!

I really doubt having missing financial aid documents means anything.

I wish it did, but probably not…

Especially with so many people missing them
