@jellymuffin Congrats! Do you mind post your stats? I would appreciate it.
Yup sure! I know how much the stats posted by previous applicants helped me too, so I’d be happy to share.
Current college: UCLA
Entering as (soph/jr):Junior
Current Major: English
High School GPA: 3.947 (at the time I submitted the app. it’s now 3.959)
SAT scores:2240
SAT II Scores:N/A
Major GPA: 4.0
US/Intl: US citizen but international? Not sure how this works exactly.
I am an English major but applied for the ISHU (Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities) because I wanted to also practice visual art and focus on writing my own creative works. I was actually really surprised I got in, since I didn’t get in my freshman year and I guess I kind of expected the same thing to happen again. This admissions process is really crazy, and you guys were all really helpful during our stressful wait time haha. Let’s hope for good news for the rest of our results!
Accepted! Can’t believe it considering Dartmouth and UPenn were both rejects, both my favorite schools.
Can’t say I am upset however. Not a bad consolation prize. Still holding out for Columbia, Harvard, Brown, and Yale. Before I make my final decision, I will probably fly out to Chicago sometime in the next week.
In terms of stats, I was piss-poor in High School GPA wise but managed to weasel my way into a top business program for freshman year.
In terms of overall stats, I had a 3.9+ and a 32 ACT. I am a white male from an affluent background. I also applied for Political Science…so two very generic things.
I would say the biggest difference was my essay, everything just “fit”
Thank you both for your stats. Now I have a clue of what kind of applicants they are looking for and I see that it is not a coincident they rejected me. Congrats to you guys and good luck to those who are still waiting for the news from other school
And for people who are applying for next year, it might help to see a stat of someone who got rejected:
Result: rejected
Applied for sophomore year
School: USNWR top 20
HS GPA: 3.85 (unweighted -seniority played a factor–got one B and during the last semester of my high school)
ACT: 32 (first sitting)
SAT 2: One 770 and one 750
College GPA: 3.9
Current major: English
Essay: had a focused academic interest that is not offered by the current school, and had a quite a story as an “independent” student.
Ethnicity, gender: Asian male (lol), domestic
needed full financial aid, although I think U Chicago is need-blind.
I didn’t have an outstanding EC, and my courseload wasn’t rigorous in the first semester, because I had to take courses required for freshmen.
Good luck to transfer applicants for 2016 cycle!
Congrats to those who were accepted! What did you guys write your essay on?
Rejected. Not surprised–wrote the essay with minutes to spare. Plus it’s so so competitive of course, even if I had written a perfect essay, I think I would’ve been rejected. Huge congrats to all accepted, that’s seriously incredible.
Dartmouth or Penn for me
@CCCtransfer0613 which essay? For the main essay I did: A neon installation by the artist Jeppe Hein in UChicago’s Charles M. Harper Center asks this question for us: “Why are you here and not somewhere else?” (There are many potential values of “here”, but we already know you’re “here” to apply to the University of Chicago; pick any “here” besides that one). - Inspired by Erin Hart, Class of 2016
Rejected! It would have been awesome to have the choice, but I’m perfectly content with UC Berkeley. Congrats to all who got in!
@slantrhymes Congrats on Berkeley! Perhaps I’ll see you there.

waitlisted ahhhh
Do you guys know if U Chicago is need-blind for transfer students? They say they meet 100% financial need, but they don’t say they’re need-blind. On the other hand, they say they’re need-blind on the First-Year applicant page.
As you’d already know meeting 100% financial need and being need-blind are two very different things (For example, Columbia is need-blind but don’t meet 100% financial need. I heard they changed the policy somewhere, but I don’t remember the source, so it’s not that reliable)
Somehow I’ve thought they were need-blind, but now I’m checking their websites again, they don’t say anywhere that they’re need-blind. If you see anything, can you post the url of the page? Thanks.
I’m not planning to go to UChicago, so hopefully somebody on the waitlist on this thread can get in! All the best!
Any veterans (prior military) applying to U Chicago?
@ltfezha I was a veteran, rejected.
@GRANBYsyztem What were your stats?
Hey I’m wondering what would you choose between UPenn LPS(nontraditional program) vs. UChicago (traditional program)??
