Official UCI Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

UCI applications discussion

I TAGed to UCI. Visited the campus over the summer, and I really enjoyed it. Love the weather.

Hello everyone! Here are my stats!

Major: Criminology
Transferble GPA: 3.76 (but might be a little higher or little lower at the end of this semester. But in the .7)
Pre-reqs: Done with them by the end of Fall 2015. There’s one class not offered at my cc.
IGETC: Done by Spring 2016
TAG: Yes, but dropped a non-transferable course that was listed on my tag  Hoping that doesn’t void my tag.

EC’s:
-Part of the Criminal justice club at my cc
-Member of Phi Theta kappa
-Won the Criminal Justice Scholarship for 2014 at my college.
-Worked as an evidence management specialist for the Red Light Photo Enforcement cameras for 4 years (You know those camera’s that take pics when you pass the red light haha) f
Additional comments; I’m 24 yr old single mom with a 7 year old son. Most of my spare time is spend with my son. He is in a bunch of sports so that takes up a lot of time. This is the only UC I’m applying to because it’s the only one with my major. I am also applying to CSULA and CSUF. But I’m really really hoping I get into UCI. It sounds kind of cheesy but I really want to make my parents and son proud. I got pregnant at 17 while I was still in high school. I want to show my parents that I am not just another teen mom statistic

Also I haven’t started writing my personal statements yet but I’m sure they’ll be decent haha

Hopefully I can write a good personal statement, barely started couple days ago.

I TAGed here also. I don’t think UCI gets the credit it deserves. It seems like its creeping up to UCSD level in quite a few of its programs. I live close by and realize that its a commuter heavy school, but the vibe is very similar to UCSD. For anyone on the fence about UCI, visit it if you can and it’ll probably change your mind. It’s pretty great.

I think UCI is a step up from UCSD, socially. People say it’s a commuter school, but there is TONS of student housing, and many people I know live on (or near) campus. It’s also right next to Newport Beach.

UCI is climbing quickly in academic rankings, as well. Their law school is getting up there, and they have a great undergrad Criminology program.

3.1 GPA
AAT Psychology, applying PSB
4.0 GPA in all coursework since returning to school after a long break about 6 years
Currently getting all As in my classes.

Reviewed my personal statements with a rep and they were given a thumbs up
Psi Beta, Phi Theta Kappa
Volunteering with homeless
Professional work in substance abuse treatment

November 1st is coming… I wish you all success and that for each of us the right path be revealed. Let’s keep this thread current once acceptances start with reports of approved and denied applicants stats. Work together on problem solving with the application process. Again, best wishes to you all.

3.1 GPA
Religious Studies
Pretty good personal statements 9/10.
Worked in a molecular research laboratory for a year and a half.
Brought myself up from a year of horrendous grades so there’s a definite upward trend.

Really hoping I get in since Religious Studies isn’t impacted or anything. Good Luck!

@BackNSchool83 what is PSB?

Psychology and Social Behavior which is a more clinical program than regular Psychology

@BackNSchool83 How do you get an admissions rep from the school to look over your statements? Do you just try to make some kind of appointment over phone?

Major: Public Health Sciences
UC GPA: 3.94, will most likely increase, but not much
IGETC: will complete this fall
TAG: No. I could have if I had taken a math class Summer 2015 instead of this fall which is a bummer
Prereqs: all mandatory major prep will be completed by this spring. Additional courses approved: missing biochem, O chem series, and Calc I

ECs: STEM Scholar, Bridges Scholar (academiclly selective; pays students to seriously explore a STEM research career), public health internship for 3 months spring 2015, data entry job for 1 month this summer, worked at a pizzeria oct 2014-jan 2015, will probably start working in a lab at CSU San Marcos before I submit my application

Personal Statements: I feel like they’re pretty solid but I’m still getting feedback on them. Illness inspired my major/career pursuit. Being open to new experiences gives me chances that most people don’t get.

Well my CC is in Orange County so that may increase access to meeting with a rep. You should locate a place called the transfer center on your campus. Talk with them and ask if you could set up an appointment with a UCI rep. Ask if regular counsellors at the transfer center could review your essays as well, you may have to wait too long to see the rep but maybe not if you make an appointment right away. My school makes you call a certain day in the morning to make regular appointments, but won’t book appointments with reps over the phone so I made my rep appointments in person. Often they have walk in hours for counseling as well. If you are in OC send me a private message and I’ll hook you up with all I know.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.92
IGETC: will be complete by spring
TAG: yes
Prereqs: will be completed by spring
ECs: Math Tutor, EOPS tutor, I also work as a line cook, and have three children 

@BackNSchool83 Thanks, there was a college fair at my school and I set up an appointment with one of the UC reps for next week.

The rep that came to my school for our college fair said their avg. acceptance GPA was about 3.4; atm I feel like I should’ve tried tagging to Irvine rather than Davis. UCI is appealing to me and I agree on it becoming more recognized.

I always thought Davis had more noteriety but I guess you should focus more on the school that best fits your major/career.

It most definitely does, but I was just agreeing that Irvine is (rightfully so) being more recognized in general; I wasn’t too clear. You are right though but the college experience is important for me as well.

Hi everyone! Im looking for some feedback about my chances of getting in Fall 2016. A little bit of information about me:
27 year old transfer student from CA community college (orange coast college)
3.29 overall GPA
(I began 3 years ago with a 1.0 GPA from years of immaturity and lack of focus in school) and I have since worked hard to raise my GPA to current.
After this semester (fall 2015) I should have at least a 3.40.
My major will hopefully be public health science.
I am a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma (honors society at CC)
I am a member of Mu Delta Rho (pre med honors society at CC)
I am a member of Psi Beta (psychology honors society at CC)
I am an active member of the Doctors of Tomorrow club at my CC.
I have worked in the field of public health at a residential treatment center for women for drugs and alcohol and eating disorders for the last 4 years.

I know my GPA isn’t really high yet, but there is a definitive upward trend. What do you think my chances are of getting in?
