Official UCI Transfer admittance Thread

Has everyone heard back? Is there anyone still on the waitlist?

I am submitting an appeal. I don’t know if they will even take it but its worth a try.

Who has appealed and got in?? What did you write for them to accept you? Help some colleagues out! Thnx

I’d like to know what “new and compelling” information people provided, as well!

For new and compelling information I listed that my GPA increased since the time of my application (I listed the previous and current) and also that I completed the Statistics course I was required with an A-. There are great sample letters for appeals online if you need an idea.

So we can still appeal now!?

I don’t know if you can or not but at this point it can’t hurt

I just called and she said you can still appeal although it’s late. The chances of getting in are really slim though apparently. Also for those who weren’t offered admission it wasn’t about GPA or anything, it was just an issue of space. I asked why other people on the waitlist got in instead and she said that they were just higher up on the wait list. :/

Most people who were denied were around 3.0-3.09 gpa

I have a 3.57 GPA, lots of EC’s, and I am from out of state…I got denied.

@kanjikebin yeah i asked her why other waitlisters were let in as opposed to us getting in since she kept saying it was “just about space.” she was pretty vague about the answer for that. it definitely can’t be random or else it wouldn’t be fair at all. I thought we were most likely ranked by GPA but reading @astef001’s response, it can’t be GPA either.

What was your major @astef001 if you don’t mind me asking?

yeah i’m turning in an appeal. can’t hurt to try although i don’t really expect to get in tbh.

I applied as a Social Policy & Public Service major (School of Social Sciences). I was honestly shocked to be rejected from the wait list. I went to a 4 year university in Miami, FL and I think that California students got priority over non-residents like myself. I mailed my letter of appeal yesterday, guess now it’s just more waiting…I always think its better to do every possible thing you can and even if the appeal is rejected (likely) at least I tried and made them suffer through more paperwork :)

@astef001 “I think that California students got priority over non-residents like myself”

Well it is California and California residents are far more in priority than out of state, which is a given in any state you go to a public institutions like this. Like you might heard, California is knee-deep in tar of debt and they started to accept more out of state students who does not need any financial aid to cover their tuition cost (most of the cases). If they rejected you from the waitlist at this point, they must have a clear and valid reason to do so but I would not know for sure (based on the last two years, UCI did not take any consideration from the waitlist appeals b/c they were certain they got the “right amount” of people in) but again, this year I don’t know they do follow the path as the last two years

Good Luck Bud

Thanks @fredfrep. I totally understand why CA residents would get priority, I just wish there was some room for me! I checked my portal and they received my appeal. I highly highly doubt it will get approved, but at least they know how bad I want it. I’ll let you know any updates.

Did they say when they would release appeal decisions for those previously on the waitlist?

Most likely Mid-July ish if you turned it in by May 15th. But I have heard cases where ppl have been notified 2 weeks before school started…

Thanks IcedEspresso. I didn’t submit one, as I’m going to UCLA, but I was just curious what timeline they told everyone given how late they released waitlist decisions.

I turned my in around May 18th. I emailed my admissions counselor today. If I get any info Ill post.

@aaespino20 thanks! I’ll keep you guys updated with any info I find out as well!

Good luck to those of you trying to appeal!
