Official UCI Transfer admittance Thread

What made you go back to Irvine? Anything in particular? We’re kind of in the same boat, except I haven’t quite made up my mind and I’m on the fence, which sucks. :expressionless: I feel super fortunate to even have such a tough choice though.

Well, I haven’t quite decided yet, but I suppose that the reason I’ve been leaning toward Davis is simply due to the fact that I’ve been reading up on it and it definitely sounds like a place I’d be happy in. Plus, it’d be nice to get out of SoCal, a place I’ve lived in my whole life. To be honest I’ve never really been up to North Cal. I’m also thinking of switching majors to Human Development, but Irvine doesn’t offer that.

My family’s telling me to go to Davis too haha. We’ll see, but regardless of the choice I make, like you said, they’re both excellent schools. :)

@sewupyolo good luck to both of us. Hopefully we get good news on Monday. Since I don’t think that they will release decision during the weekend.

Hopefully, I’ll get accepted to UC-Irvine

still no word for comp game sci major.

@TL1990 hello there, your psych. major right? well, good luck for both of us as I also haven’t gotten their respond yesterday :)

Whats your guys’ reason of choosing UCI over other schools? (specifically Davis, Santa Barbara, or San Diego? Those are teh schools I have to decide against. Waitlisted San Diego)

my gpa is 3.2 major math still got in

I’m just curious about all the applications to multiple UCs. I know just about everyone applies to Cal and UCLA, and perhaps also UCSD. I also understand about applying to safety net UCs. But why apply to every middle tier school, if you are an excellent student? Is it an ego thing for the best students?

hiii did you send any transcript prior to admission?

Malmol because even excellent students can have plans that go wrong. And sometimes life changes; plans change. So, in order to keep options available in case something changes people apply to every UC

@Stressy: The sole reason I chose Irvine is because of my major. From doing my research on degree programs and course offerings at both schools, both of Irvine’s Psych programs (Cognitive Science and Psychology & Social Behavior) are much better than Santa Barbara’s Psychology one.

I have a very strong gut feeling that I would be happier at Santa Barbara, though. From what I’ve heard, the overall vibe is much more appealing and of course the location is hard to beat. It may not be as strong as Irvine in the Psych dept but its still a top public institution. It seems like the more balanced choice in terms of everything I’d want in a college experience.

Overall, it came down to happiness vs. acadamics. I can’t see myself happy at Irvine but I feel like I cant throw that opportunity away.

Like you, I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to choose between two schools that I think are great in their own opposite ways, but it also means that both choices would leave me with some sort of regrets. Either way, I’m definitely happy to get out of the Bay Area and leave community college. I’ve wanted to go to school in SoCal since I was 13 years old lol.

Good luck with your decision (:

Just because someone is an excellent student doesnt mean that they shoud limit themselves to only Cal, UCLA, or UCSD. They have their own personal reasons for actually wanting to go to Irvine/Davis/Santa Barbara.

did uc irvine require any transcript prior to admission? please answe anyoneee
and also are they strict about having done 60 units exact or more and not less than that?

I dont think transcripts are a requirement prior to admission. I know they want high school and CC after you’re admitted as a transfer though.

I do think they are very strict about the 60 units.

I wasn’t aware UCI had a CogSci major? Could you be referring to the Psych Major?

Missing four prereqs
I’m pretty surprised that I was admitted considering the amount of prereqs I was missing :/

@randroid Are you going as on-campus or off-campus? I might just get a apartment not too far from Irvine like Tustin, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach but all sounds so damn expensive even both on-campus (I think it costs alot more than obtaining an apartment yourself)

@MHyde wow congrats! what was the four pre-reqs you missed? is it those Political Science classes? (IR, Comparative Politics, Ancient Theory, and Basic Poli 1)?

At the moment my plan is to live on campus through the ACC complexes (Vista del Campo or Vista del Campo Norte in the cheapest floorplan possible). I like that they’re close to campus and already furnished and look pretty nice. Im just a little confused because the housing app for transfers only allows ACC options for Vista del Campo Norte and Camino del Sol (expensive!). However on the ACC website you can fill out an app for any of the four complexes. I emailed UCI housing yesterday for clarification.

Also, my original plan was get a place off campus with a friend somewhere in OC but I really dont want to have to commute. Right now my house, work, and school are in three different counties so a day with both work and school puts 84 miles on my car :l It would be nice to not have to commute anymore once I transfer
