i see…
are they going to email us or do we have to check the site like everyday

Probably check the site. That’s generally what happened, according to what I read in the appeals thread from last year.

I saw last year’s thread. Everyone was convinced that each review had to make it through four stages to reverse the decision.

What was the basis of appeal for you folks?

EDIT: fortify: No I didn’t put my EC’s.
That’s how smart I am. I don’t even deserve an appeal chance for that. xD

12.5 years of softball with 9.5 years of pitching.
10 years of Girl Scouts.
7 years of Hebrew School.
Tutoring for hours and off the record.

really? 4 stages? thats intense.

can you show me links? thanks

Haha. It was only a rumor. No one could prove anything about a four stage review.

How are you guys checking your status? Have you tried registering ursa with ucla id on the status page. In the previous year threads, some people did that and found out their acceptances sooner. That could make a difference in housing application.

Actually, ninjashayna, the four stage review is true…

for LA: “A member of the comprehensive review resource team reviews each appeal for Letters and Science. If a change in the decision is recommended, it is referred to a second member of that team. It is then forwarded to the Associate Directors and then the Director for a final decision.”

Granted, this is from 2004…but I assume they still use the same process.

My mistake. Makes sense why everyone received their decision so late.

so i mailed mine on thursday (the 17th) and the decision site still hasn’t updated my status to say that they received it yet. how about you guys? if so, when did you guys mail it in and when was it updated?

the-SO-cool-dude: aye! same here… according to fedex, it was delivered on 16th and it still doesn’t show up on the admissions portal.
i would be worried if it doesn’t show up till this friday… till then, let’s just assume they’re taking their time to process ≈1000 appeals!

edit: my appeal was for berkeley, though. (accepted to UCLA already) but i’m guessing both the colleges have a similar procedure! (:

ohh, do you want to go to cal?
i got into cal, but it was a no go for ucla -___- i want ucla so badly so yeah! i wish we could trade if cal was your ideal school :]

100% tuna: yeah dude, i got into cal too, but I REALLY WANT TO GO TO UCLA…
that would be hella tight if we could swich acceptances…haha

mmm. I mailed my appeal april 12th and i think it updated on april 15th…

@cool-DUDE ^ uchopeful73: is UCLA REALLY that much better than Cal? i know at least 6-7 people who got into Cal and are appealing to UCLA (and I seem to be the only idiot doing it the other way round!) I TOTALLY WANT TO EXCHANGE ACCEPTANCES! HAHA! though if things don’t work out, i’ll be a happy bruin/tartan this fall! :)

i think if i remember in last year’s appeal–i saw that someone got accepted early.
does that mean that person didn’t go through the 4 stages?

rbkhoops21: This is my guess:

All appeal students go through the four stages. Many of the ones accepted find out after May 1st because then the committee knows how many turned in their SIRs and how many spots are left. The people who are accepted early or denied early were going to be accepted or denied on their appeal regardless of the number of submitted SIRs.

But, that’s only how I would think it would work. And, I don’t know much on the subject; I’m probably way off.

Don’t think too much on it. What’s done is done. What happens now is out of your hands, so there’s no use fretting.

alright. good luck to you. :]

i’m about to crack!!! the wait is killing me. they got my appeal on the 13th so now just wait wait wait check the darn site everyday every moment ahhhh!!! if they’re going to reject me i hope that they do it soon

Good luck to you too rbk. And to everyone appealing.

I went back and read my letter last night and thought in a few places, “Oh, I should have worded that differently.”
Ah, well. I’m ready to work my ass off wherever I go anyway.

when did you guys mail your letters and when did the site confirm that they received it? i had mine rush delivered on the 16th (i live very close to ucla too -___-) and i still dont have the “under review” confirmation yet.

It took six days for a status change from the day I mailed it. I rushed it too. So they received it the day after I mailed it.
