…aaaaaand we’re still waiting as well. Submitted appeal on April 15th. ugh.
I just get so frustrated hearing of people appealing, getting accepted on their appeal and then turning down the admission! It does seem like you’re taking another person’s spot at that point! Maybe that’s why some of us haven’t heard… waiting for more prospective students to turn down UCLA? ARGH!

I sent my appeal on or around April 1st, and I’ve been checking the decision site regularly, but have heard nothing, other than that they are reviewing my record and have recieved my letter. Does anyone know anything about their system of reviewing them? I read something about the letter having to be reviewed by four board members in order to make it. Since a lot of people have already been denied, I wonder if those of us still waiting made it past a first round of reviews, or if they just haven’t gotten to our letters yet. I hope it’s the former, and I tend to think so, since I sent mine a lot sooner than a lot of those already denied, but I’m not sure. Does anyone have any idea? I know, I’m impatient.

I sent my appeal the very beginning of April, and have still not heard back. This morning, I checked the UCLA online decision site, as I have been doing routinely, and the message had surprisingly changed. Whereas it previously read that they had recieved my letter and were currently reviewing my record, it now reads: “We are unable to provide your status information online at this time. You will be notified of any status changes in writing.”
Is anyone else still waiting on an answer from UCLA? If yes, does your online decision site bear the same message? Has anyone else that was waiting been rejected? Has anyone been accepted based on appeal yet? If so, was your acceptance posted online and was it a standard application (not for band, theater, engineering, or any other special program)?

This sounds encouraging ns2675. It is unlikely it is a rejection, since rejections have been posted online. So it is either acceptance or (low possibility) of requesting additional info from you. What is the basis of your appeal? Goodluck to you.

I know ns2675, and the basis of his appeal was that he taught himself arabic while in Iraq (as a Marine) and became so proficient that he acted as an interim interpretator during battle. He added a recommendation from his commanding lt. that detailed this.
He also called UCLA and they said the decision was mailed… does this mean he was accepted? How did everyone else hear? via mail? via the internet? any input would be greatly appreciated

well, its a no to me. Just got it online today.
CMU it is.
Hope the rest of you have better luck!

When you get rejected do you also get a letter in the mail?
did the status just change from we re reviewing it to rejected or was there a day or two with a different message?

I certainly hope so sprlThrdedNail, I called today and they said whatever they’re sending me is in the mail right now, so I guess I’ll hear soon.
RecentGrad2009, thanks for being so complimentary, and yes, that was the basis for my appeal. I basically expounded on what I put in my personal statements and emphasized, also via letter of recommendation, that I learned Arabic while on deployment in Iraq, and acted as an interpreter for my platoon. I’ll show it to you if you want, and I’ll definitely post it if I actually get in.
I read somewhere that at Berkely they may ask an applicant to verify stories that are particularly outlandish or far-fetched, although by what means I’m not sure. I tried accessing the supplemental information form at the UCLA website and it wouldn’t let me in, saying that they’re reviewing my application and don’t need any additional information at this time.
I wonder if they would call me in for an interview or maybe an Arabic placement test?
Has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing?

Can you appeal for a different major? and how do you do that?

ns2675, you may want to log in ursa account (based on your ucla id create an ursa account, and log in). If you are acceted, it will give you accept/decline offer. Rejection are posted online only, not followed by postal mail.

i just got in off appeal to ucla for biochem =)

i sent in a 21-page packet w/ one page letter, scholarships and their proof, prospective valedictorian speech, award copies, and a Post-It note

^ Congrats! What was the basis for your appeal?

dman: did you have a rec letter?

spiralThrdedNail, I created the URSA account, but there’s no offer, so now I’m really curious what they are sending me.
Dman5791, how did they notify you of your acceptance? Online only?

congratulations DAMN… you really worked em! did they notify you by mail or online?

Yeah, also, congratulations Dman, that’s exciting.

I got in! according to the URSA at least. and they also sent me an email with a survey sent to admitted students :)
