Send us a letter requesting that we reconsider your application. The letter must come from you (the applicant) and be postmarked no later than May 15, 2010.

Your letter must clearly outline your reasons for appealing the initial decision. The information you present should be new and compelling. Your letter should not simply repeat information that had already been presented in your application.

If the basis for your appeal involves specifics such as a changed grade you should provide documentation (e.g., a transcript) in the same envelope as your letter of appeal.

Letters of recommendation are not required. If you wish to include such letters with your appeal, the limit is two (2).

It is our usual practice to respond to appeals within three (3) weeks of the date we receive them. However, we cannot guarantee a response by June 1, the date by which many institutions require their applicants to make a commitment. We encourage applicants to consider all of their educational options.
All appeals should be directed to:

UCLA Undergraduate Admissions
and Relations with Schools
1147 Murphy Hall, Box 951436
Los Angeles, CA 90095-1436

@ Johnny: Thanks man! I really appreciate that link and the post! :). It seems that about 3 or 4 appeals went through for UCLA last year on College Confidential, so hopefully some of us can change our destinies as the applicants of last year did.

For your appeal to be considered, you must prove that you are a much stronger candidate than what was presented in your application. Specifically, you must present **new and compelling **information that was not previously available to the admissions office. So if you failed to include information regarding extraordinary hardship or exceptional talent/extracurriculars on your application, you can discuss these things on your appeal as reasons for UCLA to reconsider you. Make sure you describe exactly how the exceptional talent/extracurriculars qualify you for UCLA or how the hardship prevented you from achieving academically.

Also keep in mind that the acceptance rate on appeal hovers around 3% for UCLA.

Btw I’m nearly done with my appeal letter. I’m sending:

My transcript with new Academic Renewal

1 letter of rec

compelling letter

maybe an original piece of writing

@ Johnny: We didn’t work this hard to be thrown away the first time around! lol.

I did call. The guy gave me nothing. He said that UCLA had so-and-so many applicants, and how pre-psych is impacted. I was getting pretty annoyed tbh, but I made sure not to show it. I’m writing my appeal letter with or without his reasons.

I have all prereqs done with 1 IP, all A’s, and will have taken 8…yes 8 psych classes by the end of this semester…demonstrated interest anyone??? lol. I know people who were admitted to UCLA psych with 1 or 2 psych classes under their belt.

Yeah man thanks…I’m planning on sending mine on either this coming monday, tuesday, or wednesday…it all depends on when I get the letter from the dean of social sciences at UCI… My appeal letter is done though…I’ll definitely let you guys know when I do officially send it.

How about you…when are you planning to send yours?..the quicker you send it the quicker the response.
