Hey do you guys know the difference between “proposed computer engineering” and just regular “computer engineering”? I was admitted and my major states proposed computer engineering.
@Wa11ace my major isn’t compsci but it’s “proposed–” as well. i think that could just be how they do it, since in a lot of schools you don’t even start major stuff until 2nd/3rd year
“Your intended major is listed below. Should you wish to change your intended major, simply select the box next to your proposed major. Please note that there may be certain majors that you will not be able to choose from the list, since these majors are only available if indicated on your original application. If you are interested in one of these majors, please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@ucsc.edu or (831) 459-2131 to find out about the availabilty of that major to you.”
So if your major is proposed/intended, can’t you just change it without it having an effect on your admission? (I changed mine a few weeks ago and I was admitted today)
Accepted!

Out of State
great ECs + grades
Out of State cost might just not be worth it depending on where else I get, but I loved the campus and everything about UCSC when I visited last spring! Excited none the less.
Found this on the UCSC website but still not sure exactly what it means.
“Proposing” a major is simply indicating an interest in a major. “Declaring” a major is a more formal process that you go through with your department or major adviser. If you listed a major on your UC application, it initially shows as a “proposed” major in the MyUCSC portal (you may have updated this with your college adviser since filing your admission application). Students who enter UCSC as frosh are expected to confirm their proposed major by the end of their first year, and be formally declared in a major by the end of their second year (or equivalent). Students who enter UCSC as junior transfers are required to be declared by the deadline in their second term of enrollment.
You do not need to wait until your second year (or second term, for transfer students) to declare. You can (and should!) declare a major as soon as you’ve decided and met the major’s qualification requirements and/or prerequisites.
Researching a major’s requirements early is important, so that you can be sure to take the necessary classes to both meet the major’s qualification requirements and to confirm your interest in and ability to succeed in the major.

@Bryce145@mermaid29 I was just on the phone with someone from admissions and she told me not to worry about it if you accept the admissions offer you will be given a counselor who you can talk to about it. She also told me that really regardless of major GE requirements won’t change that much anyways and that since I have already been admitted to the jack baskin school of engineering moving around within the college to other types of engineering majors really isn’t very difficult at all.
@angiepie I think with the financial aid packet, they’ll send in more information over the next couple of days. A little slow on my part though, since my acceptance info also came with my financial aid packet from Merced. At least it isn’t as bad as UCSD or UCI
