Official UCSC Transfer 2012 Decisions

@Coquiero- Nope! Just my luck…

Just got rejected with a 3.4 GPA. I’m gonna appeal. I’m assuming it’s because I’m taking over 20 credits at once this semester, but I guess I can’t be sure.

^^^ Oh no. Impacted major? Missing pre reqs?

I’m currently taking the only pre-req left for Sociology which is Social Problems. The only other thing I can think of is that I haven’t finished my math requirement yet, but that would be finished by the end of this semester.

^^^ Actually it seems as though the math and english pre-req may be the most important of all. So far it seems as though people with a high GPA but are missing the math and english pre-req or have them (IP) have been getting rejected.

@istealhotelsoap Damn, sorry to hear. You must really be hustling to get done. Good luck with the appeal.

I’m still waiting. I took the only prereqs I could at my JC, Intro to Sociology and Social Problems. I do not have Statistics tho, which I’ve heard could be an issue.

@stressy That sounds really weird. Sounds like they want you to pick something else?

Who here has been accepted in the first batch and did not receive their admit packet? I know a few people who have been accepted in the first batch and did not receive their admit packet yet and its nearing 3 weeks.

Rejected
3.55 GPA
President of one club and VP of another
General ed completed (2 IP), two major specific courses under the belt

idek. Might appeal, waiting on other decisions.

@istealhotelsoap: I am currently completing my math and science requirements - this might be a good reason to appeal, as the requirements will be fulfilled by the end of the semester.

sorry to you guys who got rejected. Im so glad I finished both my math and english reqs during fall or I would be in the same boat as you guys. appeal! and good luck

Hehe, finally! The waiting was killing me. Just got rejected.

“We received nearly 8,000 transfer applications for a projected enrollment of 1,250 students”

Wow, stiff competition. Oh well. SJSU, here I come.

My transfer counselor said he was surprised that I didn’t get in. Apparently he knows one of the counselors there and is going to call tomorrow to see if there was a mistake made. Just in case, I’m prepping an awesome appeal letter with progress reports from my professors and a glowing letter of recommendation. Wish me luck!

@plasmadis: Really?! Damn, sorry to hear that. It must be the whole math/english requirement thing. Now it’s confirmed that its a big issue. I’m still really considering SFSU though. R, SC, and SB are really not my top choices for UCs. I’ll see what I, SD, LA, Davis, and Cal have to say first before I SIR to SFSU. Did you apply to any other UCs?

For those looking to appeal make sure you have new compelling information that you can supply that they may not have seen or may have overlooked before. It’s always worth appealing, but usually if you nothing has been added or changed to your transcript then typically they aren’t granted. A good reason to appeal would be like if you finished a major requirement in winter and your grades have recently been posted or were posted after the university got a chance to look at them. Then you could supply an updated transcript and they’ll take that into consideration to re-evaluate you. If not, typically they’ve already thoroughly reviewed your application and if there’s nothing that’s changed in it, they’re not very likely to change their mind.

@dilapidatedmind I talked to an admissions rep today and he instructed me to include progress reports as it’s a probability that I was simply taking too many credits and they didn’t want to rely on hearsay to assume that I’d complete them all. If I have signatures from my professors stating that I am achieving a “B” or higher, which would lead me to a GPA of well over 3.6, he said that he doubts my appeal would be declined.

Accepted

Major: English
GPA: 3.5
School: Berkeley City College
Pre-reqs: Complete
IGETC: Complete by Spring 2012
TAG: No

Eek! Why are you guys getting rejected with a 3.4+? That’s still above the average admitted GPA. And if it really does come down to completing your math/science pre-reqs before transfer, I think the colleges ought to make that very clear. Heck, UCSC says that its fine to complete them in the Spring prior to transfer (as well as other colleges), so why are people being rejected in doing so? If they truly frown upon it, why are they being so secretive? Just change the deadline to fall already!

Sorry guys, thats such a bummer! Its starting to freak me out though…Yikes…No decisions yet. :(

Rejected 2.98, I knew chances were slim and it wasnt my first choice but it still sucks to hear

aww i’m sorry to hear all those who didn’t make it. g’luck with the other schools! :]

I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem: When I check my “Application Status and Info” it still only displays my name and no message. I’m wondering if it’s a bug in the system or it’s normal…

I saw others with that problem, I think they said it means your about to get your decission, you can look back a few pages to see

meh, it’s been like that since i’ve first signed up for my ucsc account. i’ll give them a call.
