So what are the weirder majors for Freshmen at UCSD (i.e. few people apply for them)? The two I've seen so far are Philosophy (mine) and Russion and Soviet Studies (Branyon214).

Congratulations! Due to California budget cut, the CA's Regents this year only worths $2500/year (v.s full tuitions & fees). Oh well - better than nothing.

I have a question about appeals. I know that senior year grades won't help, but I just recently got into the semifinals for USA Bio Olympiad and my dad just lost his job. Would these make a difference on appeal?

Also, I have a question on UC GPA it is supposed to be 8 weighted classes, right? Does this mean that you would get 16 extra points on semester grades? So I have 8 classes weighted over 10/11 grade and because my grades are done by semester does that mean I get 1 point each semester?

No only 8 semester credits total. 4 year long classes or 8 semester only or a mix

Just a correction on a previous post about the Regents scholarship. It was always worth $2500/yr OR cover everything up to your EFC if you are eligible for financial aid - whatever is worth more. The full tuition/fees scholarship is available through the Jacobs School called the Jacobs Scholar Program.

I really think you guys are wrong about the UC GPA. I calculated the max if you got straight A's and the UC weighted GPA would be 4.3333, so why would the UC's cap it at 4.5, I really think it means 8 year long courses and 16 semester course. It doesn't matter to me though because I'm in at UCSD and it means I had a super low GPA and still got in

its 8 semesters.. either you calculated it a wrong way or something is off.

Nope think about it 24 (6 classes per semester, and there are 4 semesters in 10 and 11 grade combined) X 4 (Grade point for A's) = 96, now + 8 for the weighted and you get 104/24 which would be 4.3333

try with fewer classes and you will see that the max UC GPA will rise.

Try 4 classes per semester - that gives 16 class semesters attempted, with an A in each one gives 64 points, plus the 8 max if half are AP/honors, gives 72/16 or 4.5 UC GPA.

You get a lower max if you take a more rigorous load.

Just reporting how it is.

^But who really takes 4 classes per semester?
