Comments: I think I had a pretty solid essay, but I didn’t spend weeks working on it, just a few days. I talked about my internet marketing business and my politics club, two things that I think helped me stand out. UF likes people who aren’t afraid to be different.

@spencet15 Sorry to hear the bad new. My DS was denied at GT specificially becuase of 3 or 4 c’s in 9th & 10th grade. His UW is 3.5/W 4.5 and 2070 on SAT. Did you have a few grades below a “B”?
I did not ever receive a grade below a B. I just feel like the admissions at UF is a lottery and they just randomly pick and decide with no reason. I know people with much lower GPA’s and test scores who got in. I know a girl who was just in intensive mathematics last year who got in. It makes no sense but it’s just how it goes. I’m appealing because why not, but I don’t have any expectations.
@spencet15 Yes, the UF decisions tend to be more random than many other colleges. However, never having a GPA lower than a B doesn’t say much. Your GPA is still on the lower end of the spectrum. Your ACT isn’t anything special either. Doesn’t appear that you have any leadership positions either from what you listed, nor do you appear to have any strong interests towards PoliSci in your activities. We also don’t know how your essay was interpreted by the admissions committee. I’m not trying to be mean or anything, but there have been both people with higher stats that have been denied, and people with lower stats that have been accepted.
I wouldn’t say my GPA was toward the lower end of the spectrum considering it was above the UF Average and the ACT score was the mean score. I am the historian of Rho Kappa, president of Film Club, and secretary of Pre-Med. My school doesn’t offer many things toward Political Science besides Junior Statesmen of America and YIG, but I was not interested in YIG because of the way it worked. I believe and stand by my essay and the idea’s I presented in it but they may have saw it differently. I understand that the UF Admissions process is weird and fluky, but being in-state and having legacy there in addition to my resume, I should have been accepted. When I call admissions about the appeal, if they make it seem like I’d be wasting my time, I’ll just go to FSU and transfer after two years. FSU may have the better PoliSci department, but UF is the overall better school and fit for me.
Very surprised to be accepted! I also applied for housing on campus and I was just offered a contract. Does this mean if i accept the contract that I’ll definitely be able to live on campus? Also, what would happen/ I have to do if i accept the contract now but later decide to not go to UF?
@aaaammy123 I got the email too and have the same dilemma. The housing email I got stated that I have to accept the contract by 3/17 with the $125 housing deposit. However, I do not know if I’m going to go to UF yet because I find out about UCLA on 3/18! Should I still pay for the housing deposit? If I find out I get into UCLA and paid the UF housing fee, I’ll have to pay ANOTHER fee for the cancellations!

Is UF your first choice? No, waiting to hear back from Georgia and USC(Southern California)
My DD is in the same boat but she was asked to pay a deposit of $225. It doesn’t say if she will get a refund if she cancels, it just says there is a fee but idk how much. UF isn’t her first choice as she is waiting on 8 more schools by the end of March, but since housing is not guaranteed I would like to make sure she has a place if she ends up accepting her spot.
@BeastofRP@aaaammy123
If you make the deposit between now and 3/17, you get guaranteed UF housing. However, if for whatever reason, you choose not to attend UF, you may cancel your contract by 5/1 with a cancellation fee. I doubt UF will return the money.
