@experiment626 what is a “hook”?
@Monkey288195 Basically things that are like First Generation, Low Income, Legacy, etc.
I don’t know if being Black matters, apparently Affirmative Action was banned in Florida a while ago (Thank god), but who knows, maybe they still secretly practice it.
-Forgot to add, I was waitlisted at UM
The relative importance of the following academic and nonacademic factors, as listed in UF’s latest common data set:
Academic:
Rigor of school record/Academic GPA/Application Essay = Very Important
Standardized test scores (ACT/SAT) = Important
Class Rank = Considered
Recommendations = Not Considered
Nonacademic:
Extracurricular activities/Talent-ability/Character-personal qualities/Volunteer Work = Very Important
First Generation/Geographical residence/Work Experience = Important
Alumni/State Residency/Level of applicant’s interest = Considered
Racial/Ethnic Status/Religious affiliation/Interview = Not Considered
Some things to note:
Race is not considered.
UF doesn’t do interviews or cares about recommendations…Not Considered
Class Rigor, GPA and the Essay are more important than your test scores. That silly essay is very important.
Your EC’s are very important. You really do need to do some volunteer work, or just plain work…
UF is now taking into consideration the “Level of applicant’s interest”. It’s not that important, but you do want to at least visit UF once and do a tour.

R4cheh, I think your chances are extremely good. Love your “bringing music to nursing homes” EC, I’m sure UF will love it too! If you care to share, what IS your first choice school? Looks like FSU is your only “safety.” Notre Dame is the only true cold weather school on your list.
Rohaa I mentioned on your other thread I think your chances are pretty good. (not as good as R4cheh or SoflaGator, though)
Soflagator, I think you’re an equally good candidate as R4cheh, I think you’re both shoo-ins.
KiaraBabi, although you’ve got the somewhat lower SAT score, I think everything else looks good. Your essay will weigh in your favor. Also being a first generation college student will be helpful to you as well. I think you’ll get in. Wondering your first choice, again, only if you’re comfortable sharing.
For you pre-med/pre-vet people, just remember your undergrad GPA is all-important. Medical schools care what the number is, not where you went to school. Of course you two seem like top notch candidates so maybe you’ll hit it out of the park no matter where you go, but it might be slighly easier if you’re at the top of the pack at UF vs one of a gazillion superstars elsewhere.
Just something to think about, along with finances.
Good luck to all of you, I hope you ALL get in!
@Rohaa99 i think you have a good chance! Your ACT score is good as well as your extracurriculars!
@Trisherella my first choice is georgetown but it is very hard to get into so UF is very high on my list of top choices
@r4cheh Well you’re a shoo-in. gpa, sat and EC’s are incredible
@Rohaa99 you still have a really good chance! I got a 30 on my ACT too I just chose to send my SAT instead
@r4cheh Thanks for your input. As of right now, my first choice is FSU. I didn’t have the best experience when I visited UF previously. I’m still going to try and visit again though.

KiaraBabi, our family visited FSU and UF on back to back days. We had the nicer visit/impression of FSU. My son is accepted to FSU, and I told him if he gets into UF he should go to the accepted students preview for both schools. I think it’s tough to get a full impression of a school just from a 2-hour tour/visit.
@Trisherella I’ll have to look into that. Thanks!

Comments:
This summer I worked a UF 4-H camp and wrote my essay on that and included my leadership role and how I mentored to kids. Maybe the fact that it’s a UF owned camp helped please leave any thoughts or comments!
