No change to my admission counselor. 11 more days!! UGH!!
This is pure speculation, but I think it’s a “good thing” to have the same counselor. According some people in previous posts, your application page will change as your major changes, etc. No change might indicate you still have a counselor who overlooks your first-choice major (you are still “in” your first-choice major).
I consider myself a strong applicant, though CS at UIUC is a reach for almost everyone, and my counselor did not change.
Keep in mind this is all just speculation.
Setting up the profile to know who your counselor was in the first place was never a required action, right? We never set it up so wouldn’t know anyway.
My son currently has no counselor listed. I looked up the name of his previous counselor on the Illinois website, and she has a new position effective January 2015. I wouldn’t think you should read too much into it. The website was down Sunday morning for updates.
I think the admission officers are all “regional counselors” meaning that they are assigned based on the location of your high school. I don’t know why they would be changed, maybe they have a rotation of personnel or your file is read several times by different officers etc…don’t know about the relationship to majors. Mine didn’t change either.
Wish you all good luck.
The admissions officer on your myIllini page is based on you geographic region. I wouldn’t read anything into changes here.
Anyone care to speculate/venture an opinion on what the effect of extending the application deadline (for 35 days!!) will be on admission for highly competitive fields like CS/Eng? Are those who submitted by Nov. 1 in the same pool as those who submitted in Dec/Jan?
I looked up my new admission counselor and she is listed as the senior coordinator of admissions, so I’m guessing that she is the one doing the final review of some applications.
counselor changed here too
now lets see if students from a particular area have a particular counselor…copy and paste if you want
SF bay area - Laura Lavender (used to be Nicole something)
It is regional. I live in the champaign area and back in September, a U of I admission counselor came to my school to talk to seniors, she was the admission counselor for central IL, and she is the counselor listed on my account.
@katll222 Is it Caroline Ewing? We are in central Illinois. She was listed as my son’s counselor until the update over the weekend. Now he doesn’t have one listed.
No, mine is Kristin Smigielski
Just verified on uiuc website that counselors ARE determined by region.
I fully believe that’s the case, but I was a little concerned when you said you’re from central Illinois and your counselor didn’t change. We’re from closer to Springfield, so it’s entirely possible (probable) that there would be more than one counselor for central Illinois.
Did anyone here apply to the Applied Health Sciences college?
Ok I’m feeling a lot better now that I know this is just a regional thing, not an accepted/denied thing!
You guys are probably right.
Just stopping by to say that the regional theory is true. I’m in Chicago and the person who visited my school is the one listed on MyIllini.
My son is an international student and he got his acceptance last year first on MyIllini and it was followed by an email. @Bored1997
@balhbalh same thing happened to me. im from sf bay area and mine changed from nicole turner (she visited my school too) to laura lavender
