@arilulu96 im going to the admitted student day on March 31 for engineering
Congratulations to all
According to this link:
“Whatever you do, do not expect to transfer into the CS department. Definitely apply after building the strongest record you can, but also cultivate other options—including other majors at Illinois and the CS major at other universities.”
I have read elsewhere that if you are not DIRECTLY admimtted to a major at UIUC then it’s usually best to look at other options.

For those who went to the LAS James Scholars reception, what main information did they provide?
Sweet. See you there
My D just received mail from CS department, saying that she’s one of the 400 got admitted out of nearly 5000 applicants. I heard CS at UIUC is competitive, but 8% admission rate is quite low.
I mean we are a top-5 CS university, and the department is already overcrowded due to very high yield.
Was accepted back in December, but turned down my offer of admission.
Was accepted in December to DGS -first and only choice. Currently trying to choose between UIUC, UW Seattle and Plymouth U in the UK.
Anyone got the James Scholar email from college of business?
so im assuming a waitlist is a rejection?
Can someone please share the UIUC groupme link with me ?
Is there a group me or Facebook page for UIUC engineering or just UIUC? Please send it to me if there is. Anything specific for kids from CA going to UIUC would be great too! Easier to arrange for travel etc.
is anyone in the class of 2021 facebook group? I requested to join 3 days ago and it’s still pending
Does anyone know where to send UIUC my official academic records from years 9-12 with verification of graduation? Do I have to email them? Or mail them the hard copy?
Anyone get off the waitlist for CS in the CoE?
How competitive is Physics LAS or Engg physics COE?
They’re both pretty competitive. From what I’ve heard the department is considering merging LAS Physics into CoE Physics but that’s probably a while away. That being said Engineering Physics is one of the easier CoE majors to transfer into. As long as you did well in HS math and have a good math score on your ACT/SAT you should be fine.
@literallymarx I do have have strong math skills (800 sat math lvl 2, A+ in ap calc ab, etc.)
I know this is only class of 2021 thread (because I’m a junior right now in hs), but is the physics las and engg physics coe both good primary/secondary majors? I could do math las as a secondary major if I want to.
Physics is a great major at UIUC. The graduate level program is top 10 in the USA in just about every major ranking system. The undergraduate Engineering physics was rated #2 the last time USNews rated it a few years ago. They are run in the same department with many of the same required classes, so whichever curricula you take will be solid.
Physics has a few different tracks. LAS “Science & Letters” is virtually the same curriculum as CoE Engineering Physics, with some minor differences in electives. “Specialized” is similar, but with an emphasis on graduate school preparation courses in Physics in lieu of some electives. If you are coming in with lots of AP credits, the differences among these don’t seem all that substantial if you look at the classes and electives. I’m sure you could easily get a minor or second major in math in 4 years if you have enough credits coming in, or take a summer class or two each summer. Worth asking your freshman counselor to be sure how to do this, though. The “Physics Teaching” concentration obviously varies somewhat if your interest is high school education.
