Hey guys I figured that us waitlisted students should have a discussion thread separate from the acceptance/admitted student thread since we won’t hear back until mid-May.
Post your hopes, concerns, speculation, comments, and which option your choosing for the waitlist.
Also what school your committing to in the meantime.
Here’s to continuing to be a part of the “last to hear” club
Does anyone know what dorm we will be placed in if we choose to start in the second semester? I really don’t want to get stuck in Sylvan but I know that’s where most transfer students have to go. But we’re not exactly transferring we’re just starting late…
Yea I’d also like to know the dorm situation at UMass. I applied to the College of Education, so which dorm is best to be in?
Central area
Northeast area
Orchard Hill area
Southwest area
If you come in spring semester, they’ll still put you in a freshman dorm(so no Sylvan). This happened to two of my friends. However, it might be difficult to get a room in Southwest or the Honors College, as these two res areas are the most popular.
@Darksand99 There’s an education RAP in Orchard Hill. I think some of the education majors also go to Central. However, I’m under the impression that you can’t start education classes until your second year anyways, so it doesn’t do you much good to pick a res area near the education department.
First Post. I watched the Regular Decision Class of 2019 thread with great interest. My son, too, just got wait listed at UMASS Amherst (updated status on spire). I am now waiting for the mailed information from UMASS, after almost three months of waiting for the decision. Has anyone gotten this letter/packet yet? How long should we wait before we start bugging admissions? I hear that the list is not ranked, and you have a better chance of getting in the earlier you return your form. I do understand that he’s in for the Spring regardless of whether he gets moved from the wait list this fall. We are IS. Thanks!
@MuddledMom My spire changed to waitlist April 13th but I still have not got anything in the mail. But I’m guessing it should come this week because the Spire is said to be updated 10 days after the letter I sent by UMass. It seems UMass is about playing the “waiting game” with their prospective students. 8-|
This FAQ posted on the UMass web site will answer a lot of the Wait List questions, worth reading carefully particularly if you had applied for a selective major.
Has anyone been wait listed on spire and then subsequently received their mailed copy? Just trying to figure out when things get mailed vs. update on spire. Clearly, the “ten day rule” didn’t apply for some of these wait listed students, because DS has said that several classmates got wait listed via spire earlier this week with no physical mail received. I did look over the FAQ’s, and it said that they wanted each student to return the forms that were sent (there seemed to be no online option). The wait continues… Thanks!
Hello, writing here for the first time. We had a long wait and finally my daughters spire account changed to waitlisted on April 2nd and received the letter in mail April 6th. So, thought of joining here! She has sent in a deposit to Umass Lowell and have said yes to fall and spring which ever she gets selected in.
@ppat16 Do you remember if the wait listed letter that had to be returned back has the students id number or Name? I do not recall having seen any thing. I just got my daughter to sign it as she had just returned from Robotics that night and mailed it out!! She does not remember either. I am now worried, how will they know who they got it from just by the signature? :-t
My son’s spire updated on April 13 to waitlisted and we still haven’t received the paperwork. When we do, I’ll let you know what it looks like @ddsmomboston.
Hey guys I just got my letter in the mail today, filled it out, and put it in a mail box right away! Does anyone know if they will contact us confirming that they received our waitlist letter? Because I don’t want mines to get miraculously lost in the mail. And what is the importance of the SPIRE ID #?
@Darksand99 Yes, your spire account should change. Once, they process the letter, it will get updated automatically. We are still waiting for the update. Best of luck!!
Does anyone here know what happens if our son/daughter goes to some other school for the first semester than continues at Amherst for spring. I am talking about tuition. How will that work out? Are we suppose to pay tuition for the year or you pay by semester?
Do you guys know based on last years statistics when they will lets us know if we got in or not? I know they said Mid-May but I’m hoping to hear back before May 15? Does anyone have any ideas when they will make contact based on last years waitlisted students? Maybe after the week of May 1st?
Has anyone heard any news so far? My SPIRE still says “waitlisted offered” so idk if they received my waitlist option letter. Personally The wait has been so difficult for me :((
