***OFFICIAL UMass- Amherst Spring 2016 Transfers Thread***

Hey guys I figured that us 2016 Spring Transfer students who were waitlisted and/or are transferring to UMass in the Spring should have a thread now. This thread is meant to ONLY be for students who are transfers and/or were waitlisted for the Spring 2016 Semester to UMass Amherst and will be attending January 2016 as part of the Class of 2019.

Please post your hopes, concerns, speculation, and comments on what you expect this coming January 2016.

Also, a Facebook group for the 2016 Transfers has already been made early! So please join:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/736720889772765/ (facebook should be in place of the ***)

And just in case anyone lost their copy or link to the 2015 FAQ page, I copy & pasted the Spring 2016 Semester section below along with the upcoming dates involving important paperwork that needs to be submitted:

THE SPRING SEMESTER ENROLLMENT OPTION:

Q: I’ve heard that if I’m waitlisted I am automatically offered spring admission (for the semester that
begins in January). Is that true?

A: Yes! All waitlisted students are guaranteed a spot in the spring semester, if they wish to enroll, as long
as the grades on their final high school transcript are consistent with the academic record with which
they applied and they follow the appropriate procedures within the specified timelines. Here is the
schedule for this option:

• June 1: Deadline to return the completed waitlist form to the Admissions Office. Be sure to indicate
either Option 2 (interested in spring enrollment) or Option 3 (interested in both fall admission and
spring enrollment).

• September 1 or before: Request that an official copy of your final high school transcript be sent to
the Admissions Office. An offer of admission for Spring 2016 will not be made until this is received.

• Mid-October: We will mail you a spring-term admit letter and enrollment form.

• November 1: Deadline for confirming your spring enrollment by returning the enrollment form and paying the $500 non-refundable enrollment fee.

• Mid-November: You will receive additional enrollment information. You are responsible for ensuring that we receive an official transcript for any college work you do in the
fall.

Please note that admission to the spring semester is a general offer of admission only. This means that
waitlisted students admitted for spring will not be admitted to a selective major

Bump + Any Freshmen 2016 Transfers feel free to comment!

@Darksand99 - Thanks for making this guide!

No prob. I’m just trying to help out my fellow transfers to make their transition to UMass in January less stressful and less confusing

Can’t wait to leave my school and start at umass in the spring. Thanks for the thread.

My status on SPIRE officially changed to “Admitted”

When did you apply?

@barcafan30 congrats I found out online too! And I got the acceptance package in the mail the same day.

how long did it take for you guys to receive an email from umass amherst with your spire log in. also how long does it take them to accept you?

@tristanles Since I was waitlisted for the Spring I already had a SPIRE account (they email you it after you have successfully supplied to the university). They updated the SPIRE with the acceptance first and I never got an acceptance email I read barcafan30’s comment and checked my SPIRE to see if it was changed too. This happened on October 5th but the date on my letter says Sept. 29th so i’m guessing it takes about a week for the acceptance letter to get mailed to you.

@darksand999 oh alright thanks. I’m still waiting to get an email back from them with my spire account. I just want to make sure they got everything they need.

Ok I need help!!! Cause I need someone to tell me how safe I can be entering umass Amherst as a transfer student in the spring … Cause I have applied but haven’t heard anything yet … Ok this is my story … I finished high school at a foreign university at a very young age with a 2.7 gpa at the age of 15 ( I was young and stupid and seriously didn’t care about my future ) so the next year I decide to sit up and I took the SATs and got a 640 in maths and 510 in CR … I then went to a college outside USA and had a 3.2 as my graduating Gpa and I just finished a semester in Massassoit community college here in Massachusetts taking 12 credits and got a 3.8 gpa …classes included ( college algebra, General chemistry 1 and English with some liberal art course) and I’m currently taking 9 credit courses right now … So is it possible to actually get in … Pls reply ASAP !!

And I obviously have some extra curricular activities under my belt (about 10-13different activities

@richyy07 You seem to be doing the right steps to make it into UMass by earning college credits now, sonI don’t see why they wouldn’t accept you in the Spring especially since your already in Massachusetts. But if you do get in make sure you email a transfer counselor to see if your credits can be transferred into UMass. Good Luck

Was anyone not waitlisted but still applied as a transfer? If so, what is your status?

i applied as a transfer. i haven’t heard back yet though. i haven’t even got an email from amherst about my log in. how long did it take for you guys to get that?

@tristanles I got my login ID when I first applied as a fall student … But then I received a mail after like 2 months after I had applied stating that " they were no longer taking freshmen … And if I would like my application to be moved to the spring I should give them a notice … And so I did … So I have been using the same login ID … U should prolly call the undergraduate admission ext number and tell the about ya login ID issue … Cause ya gonna need it for so many things … Financial aid and selecting classes … But I wish us good luck tho … Cause I haven’t heard anything concerning my admission … And I was told mails were sent out last week and some are gonna be sent out this week to … So we jus have to be a little bit patient I guess

hey guys,
i am a waitlist kid too who is coming to umass in the spring. Where is everyone looking at living? or like does anyone know anything about where we will be placed for living? like is there a specific dorm where they put the spring kids?

@oaktre I posted a question about this called “Which Resident Hall is the best for an Education Major?” its two rows below this thread and people have given me great advice even if you aren’t an ed major. I’m picking O-Hill because I like things being a bit quite while people who might enjoy noise/partying may go for Southwest.

Here’s what another poster told me:

"The general reputations of the dorms:

Southwest- Party all day, every day. It gets wild down there.

Central- Lot of pot, but I didn’t see this at all when I was living there. It’s right next to Frank, which makes it really convenient- it’s about a ten minute walk to the library, and twenty to get into Amherst Center.

O-Hill- Former honors dorms. It’s nice, but that hill is a force.

Northeast- Mostly engineers, but there are a few nurses in there too."

Sylvan is a residence Hall only for transfer students but people say its way far out and isolated from everyone else.

Anybody heard back from umass yet
