Official UMBC Early Action Thread- Class of 2017

It's about that time! Decisions for early action applicants for umbc should be coming out in a few weeks or so. How anxious is everyone else? When I visited schools, UMBC wound up being ranked near the top even though I am applying to schools that are much more selective. We can wait together and post our admission decisions once the letters come out.

Jazmine – I saw that you also posted on the Case forum. My son applied to both Case and UMBC EA as well (he also applied EA to Loyola MD and CUA) and he is excited about hearing from at least two of them this week. I’m not sure where else you applied, but UMBC is pretty selective for a non-Flagship public university. Best wishes for some good news this coming week!

Well add my son to the list of kids who applied to Case and UMBC EA. Never thought of it, but I guess there are similarities between the two. Good luck Jazmine 1423 and mtown27 son.

Check your online application status.

Accepted!

I got in too! It’s weird that you have to check for yourself - don’t most schools send an e-mail?

S admitted to UMBC according to status. I think we have to wait at least a month or so on honors or merit, but this is a nice start.

Just got admittance online and in the mail today!

Thanks to this thread, just went outside and checked the mail. S admitted to UMBC, two schools in one day.

mtown27 - At the info session we where told merit decisions where totally separate from honors so I thought it would come with the acceptances.

Mom24boys – yes, Honors and merit decisions are separate. According a thread from last year on this forum, merit decision come out mid to late January. Honors decisions come out after February 1, accoring to the confirmation email we received when my son applied.

My S said he was accepted.
But we haven’t received mail yet.
We live in montgomery county and I think this area is pretty close to UMBC.
I hope we are getting it on Monday.

Awkward moment when I wasn’t even notified of being accepted & wouldn’t have know had it not been for @gunnerz…

YAY! that’s 2/9!

My acceptance packet came in the mail today. FYI, I’m out-of-state.

I only checked my application status because I had been admitted to another school the day before, and I saw “New Admits” on the myUMBC page. Very excited, just waiting for the honors college and merit scholarship decisions- and I am applying to the Sondheim Public Affairs Program. I am OOS(NY) and I got my acceptance package 4 days after I checked my status online so it shouldn’t be long now.

Those who were accepted, What are you stats?

Son has 3.97 W GPA, mostly Honors and (7) AP, 34 ACT, 2160 SAT, HS does not rank. Lot’s of community service, no particular hook.

I was deferred.
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.337/4.0
SAT:1730 (650 M, 520 CR, 560 W)
ACT: not submitted
SAT 2: Math 1 (620) Math 2 (660)
AP Classes: Statistics and Calculus
Honors: 5 classes
My EC’s are good, (i have held leadership positions in all of them except for 2, all my sports are varsity, I have won athletic awards each season)

I go to a small private school in maryland, and UMBC has accepted students with lower gpa’s and scores than mine, so this was a bit of a surprise.

UMBC tends to defer a large portion of early applicants.
@Lawnyy, I believe you got deferred because of a weak SAT score. Your critical reading is below the 25th percentile. I wouldn’t worry though, I think you’ll be fine for regular admission.

DS received very nice scholarship offer in the mail today. Kind of funny since he was up late last night finishing his Sondheim app which we had to fax before midnight.

So I got my acceptance letter around a month ago, but I just got an awesome scholarship letter today. It’s the University Scholar award, which is $18,000/yr ($72,000 total)

@wsikder What were your stats?
Also, how much is UMBC tuition without aid?
