I also happen to know A LOT of people applying for Fall 2012 transfer admission to UMD. It is going to be very competitive this time around.

I am well aware that I am a long shot. I was denied last year so I am preparing myself for rejection #2. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take though!

Hey everyone. I just reapplied to the UMD CP this past February. I was denied admission the first time I believe due to not having enough credits to be considered as a transfer. However, I have now completed 37 credits in my current institution (including transfer credits: 50). I am now working on an additional 18 credits, so I will leave my Sophomore year with 55 credits (68 including transfer credits). My cumulative GPA is pretty low at a 3.39. However, it would be higher because certain classes are weighted more than others. I have not received any grade below a B.

I’m hoping that I will have a much better chance of getting in since I have completed more hours and have been involved in many extra curricular activities over the past few semesters. Has anyone received an admissions decision yet? I know last year they released them before mid-April.

Good luck!

P.S. Let me know if you receive an acceptance letter.

Has anyone heard back yet? I’m graduating from a community college in Maryland this Spring with 70 credits and a 3.4 GPA. Should I be expecting to hear back the first week of April?

Do you guys think I have a good chance.
I don’t have my full stats:
3.18 GPA in high school.
3 in AP Chem took 4 AP classes total.
Plenty of Honor classes.
1560 SAT (My math was high, but my writing score brought me down.)
For CC:
3.8 GPA first semester with Dean’s list.

I taught just having a 3.8 GPA in CC would definitely get me in, but looking at the recent posts it does not appear like I have that great of a chance.

High school Stats:
3.9/4.0 GPA Unweighted
Over 300 hours of volunteer work
Worked at Abercrombie
2060/2400 SAT
740 SAT 2 literature
720 SAT 2 math

College stats:
Currently at University of Tennessee
4.0/4.0 GPA after 37 credit hours
2nd semester freshman (technically Sophomore bc of hours)
Worked at Kumon Learning Center
Now, working with a tutoring service tutoring at underdeveloped school
Currently taking 17 credit hours.

Does anyone know when decisions come out and by what means we’ll find out?

I’m a sophomore hoping to transfer to UMD from a Maryland community college this fall. I am a communications/journalism major.

I have 3.9 with 41 credits right now, I hope to have 62, when I graduate.

Activities:
I am a member of the magazine staff and VP of the Journalism Club.
I am also an active participant of the SGA and the Campus Christian Life Club.

Employment:
I work as an office assistant at the college and I also have a job as a Customer Associate at a local desert store.

Like you all, I am super anxious! I hope we get the decisions soon!

I was accepted as a transfer to the UMD for Fall 2012. I received the email today. I am extremely excited because I was so nervous after seeing the stellar stats of some of you guys!!!

Michigan State GPA: 2.9 (Upward Trend. Freshman Year was not my best) I’m originally from NYC and went to MSU for two years. Then I got an internship with Dept of Vet Affairs last summer. They offered me a year round position but I was already planning not to return to MSU because of the cost. Plus I fell in love with D.C. I applied to Montgomery CC because my job required that I was a student for my appointment. GPA from MCC 3.0 (classes- not hard at all) I was working full time.

Why I was accepted? IDK…It was the only school I wanted to go to and applied to in the area because I don’t like colleges in the city and I wanted a school similar to MSU because I love that school.

I had my 2 profs from MSU write me letters of rec
My employer who is an alum wrote me a rec as well and my mentor
Essay: Spoke about education and the importance and why I messed up freshman year

Founder of women empowerment club on MSU campus
Held a position with Student Gov

I have so much more to add but that’s about it for me! I think they def noticed that I am more than a GPA and Test score, which was exactly what I wanted my essay, resume, and recommendations to show. Maybe being a student at MC helped!! Who knows!

Well I was not as lucky, and I was rejected. I really wanted to get accepted and UMD was the only school I applied to. Do you guys think I should appeal the decision; I mailed them about it awhile ago.

They would have sent an email regarding about the decision.

I got accepted!

In-state
3.35 GPA Community College
3.74 GPA High School Unweighted
1210 SAT
28 ACT
Wrote a very emotional essay (This essay got me scholarships before)
Wish everyone who is stilling waiting for their decisions the best and congrats to those who also got accepted!

nice! How many credits did you had, Dukefool? What was the emotional essay you wrote about? I hope that it was relevant in what UMD was asking in the application regarding the transfer essay.

I had 17 credits with 1 AP credit. I wrote about how my parents came to the US and how I want to excel academically to repay the sacrifices they made. I know that its very emotional because everyone that has read it said it was very deep.
