***Official UMD Priority Class of 2016 Decisions***

BIOLOGY2016: $10,000 from UMBC (in state). Got the Meyerhoff letter for invite for February 24 selection weekend in today’s mail. Actually preferred UMBC (research opportunities & internships available 1st year!). Crazy that MD said no to Engineering. Accepted (with scholarships) to Drexel, Rose-Hulman, UMBC. Awaiting decisions from Delaware & VA Tech. UMBC top choice for now.

My essay was about the impact that video games have had on my reasoning ability and critical thinking skills. I was hoping that this wouldn’t make me look too irreverent. Seems like it worked.

Advice to kids doing this next year: Be bold with whatever you are doing. Also, load up on APs Senior year while everyone else is winding down. This will make you look more serious. My GPA had a serious upward trend and my senior year is my hardest year.

Reflection and General Comments: I’m so relieved to have gotten in! It was a really crappy feeling to not be hearing back from any schools when my friends were, so I’m glad that now I at least have somewhere to go! Hoping for a Banneker/Key scholarship, though it will be a really tough decision to make if I get a really good scholarship at maryland, but also get in to one of the ‘better’ schools I applied to and don’t get any money. Also, I hope people can be slightly inspired by me because I see people who all over ensuring people that you can do well with a low SAT and high GPA, but it seems that nobody has anything to say about low GPA and high SAT. So here’s to all those kids who screwed up their GPA, but really want to make a change and do well! Congrats to everyone!

@ameliab Cant wait to play a game of chess with you if you decide to go to UMD. One of my ECs was teaching chess at the middle school too.

Science4…do the housing form NOW (to request housing). They assign freshman housing in order by when you requested housing, and it is not binding to you accepting at the university. (otherwise you may end up in a triple). If you decide to go elsewhere, you’ll just need to tell the housing people (in addition to the office of admissions) that you aren’t going to attend. The dining form is filled out after you accept.
