Official UMICH class of 2014 Accepted Thread!!!!

^
I don’t think so, I think its the new hall they are building which is like across from a Ann Arbor downtown.

Edit: Yes North Quad is a new hall soon to be completed but according to given information its not a hall open to freshmen.

aww really? engineering students are usually placed in north campus dorms? Freshman engineering students don’t really take too many classes up there though.

No, engineering students are not usually placed on north campus. You have the same chance of getting a “good” dorm as anyone else.

how did u guys get your decisions so early? 0.0 I applied Early Response as well.

The kids in my son’s class who have already been accepted applied well before the early response deadline. If you submitted your app close to the deadline (like my kid!), you won’t hear quite yet.

To those of you talking about housing, a large percentage of freshmen are put on North Campus (especially Bursley), probably the majority. Other than that, it’s mostly engineering and arts students at North. Yes the bus is a pain but the engineering campus is really pretty if nothing else.

where do most nursing students dorm first year? Would it matter since there wouldn’t really be any classes in the nursing school first year?

North Quad is not on North Campus, it’s still on Central.

Honestly, North Campus isn’t that bad, especially if you’re a music, art, theater, or engineering student. Trying to get a bus at 2am on a Saturday on Central to North while intoxicated can be a pain, but is not impossible by any means. I live in Bursley and my hall’s a good bunch of people, not to mention a large majority of people in Bursley are freshman, if that’s a factor.

^ Yeah I wanted to be with other Freshmen, and Bursly’s cafeteria looks really nice.

If me and a couple of friends want to share a triple suite, what are the chances of this actually happening? Does U of M honor this type of request for Freshmen? Or do our roommates usually end up being random ppl?

@ rkgotitans:
Nursing students have an equal likelihood as anyone else of getting placed on North Campus. It would be better to be on Central Campus, though, because freshmen year you do take some of your courses at the Nursing School (I think you take 1 per semester there…)

@yosup:

When you get your housing form in early Spring, you get to fill in your friends’ names under the roommate section if you already have an idea of who you want to room with. UMich will honor your roommate selections ABOVE your choice of residence hall. Last year, the general consensus seemed to be that if you request roommates, you’d probably end up North, but I’m not sure if it’s true or not.

In your housing form, you get three choices: Central, North - Bursley, and North - Baits. You rank them in order of where you would like to live. Then you get assigned a random number, like a lottery, and the higher numbers get priority.

Not that i’m going to be one of these, but if your an engineering, music, or art student it would be better to be on north campus?

i wish i could write in this thread SO BAAAD. I will finally feel free of all my bonds and stuff :D

yeah im going to be engineering major but I heard that freshman really just take those general prereq classes that are mostly in central campus so I’m wondering if it would be annoying that you’d have to ferry yourself back and forth a lot.

Does anyone know how long it takes from central campus to north campus by bus and bike?

If you’re a music or art, I’d say yes, living on North would be more beneficial. If you’re an engineering student, as someone mentioned before, I heard you generally have your pre-reqs in your first year, so living on Central might be better.

The bus ride from North to Central is roughly 10-15 minutes. But you also have to factor in the wait time for the bus, which can be up to 10 minutes, even more if you don’t get on a bus due to a lot of people waiting. Bike, I’m not sure, but I’ve walked from Central to North in about 25 minutes, so I’m guessing a bit less than that.

i was wondering if you can choose a friend as a roomate on central campus?
and when do we get updates of registration for campus day, housing, season tickets (Football & Basketball)??

ok can someone rank the housing from best to least like north would be the worst

It goes The Quads, Hills, North Campus…for freshmens at least.

You can request a friend as a roommate and you may be placed on Central, but I heard more cases of being placed on North. Housing is early Spring, Football tickets were in June, I think.

I would go by that list, but it really depends on personal preference. For example, I prefer Bursley (North Campus) to Markley (Hill). If you’re a theatre student (I assume the same for art and music students), I strongly suggest you live on North. But otherwise, Central’s a good choice, but know that being assigned to North Campus is by no means a death sentence.

No North Campus isnt a death sentence, but it hardly has the college feeling that Central Campus does. North Campus can be pretty deserted a lot, and there is not much to see up there, but down on Central Campus there are many more people and a lot of places to go.
