You won’t have to worry about the online placement exams until the end of May or the beginning of June.

Question-On AP exams, does LSA count the AB subscore on the BC exam (I know engineering doesn’t)? If, for example, I got a 3 on the BC but a 4 on the AB would I get credit for the AB?

EDIT: It doesn’t look like it does, which sucks. Can anyone confirm this?

Just wondering…I plan on scoring a 5 of the AP Calc AB exam. I know the CoE will give me credit, but do I still have to take the only placement exam? Or can I automatically place in Calc II?

What’s so bad about Baites? I plan on hopefully living in Bursly, but I was just wondering…

Also, are all of the buses free?!

I don’t live on North, so I’m not sure how true this assumption is, but from what I’ve heard, Baits is kind of anti-social and quiet. Bursley is supposedly much more social and fun. Also, Bursley has a dining hall, while Baits does not.
As far as I know, the blue campus busses are free as long as you have your MCard (University of Michigan) with you.

Yes all buses are free, including the white Ann Arbor city buses. It’s sweet. I went up to North from CC Little last weekend and they didn’t even check our cards so it would’ve been free anyway, which was convenient because I had a friend with me. haha.

I’ve heard the same about baits and there are a lot of people on the room swap list trying to swap out, but I’ve heard others say it isn’t that bad this year and most of the room swaps are kids trying to switch from north to central. I would try not to stress out about it. You have a LONG time before you’ll know what building you’re living in, and no matter what you’ll be at Michigan. :P

The blue buses, which are the Michigan buses, are completely free and you’ll use it mostly to get around campus. They don’t check your MCard. If you need to go further, like to Briarwood Mall or something, you’ll use the white bus, which is the AATA buses. If you show your MCard, those are free too.

Baits is more quiet from what I heard. In most rooms, you’ll have a roommate and share a bathroom with two other suitemates. Like someone mentioned, Bursley’s the only dining hall on North (unless you plan to cook), and walking from Baits to Bursley in the morning for food can be a *****. From what I heard, Baits was changed to all-freshman this year, so that’s a bonus too. Personally, I say go for Burs, unless you really want that private bathroom. And honestly, the communal bathrooms aren’t bad at all. Not to mention you don’t have to clean them yourself.

yosup, if you have AP credit, you don’t have to take the placement exam.

Are the placement tests hard…or is it like common sense?

BTW…any people who have already been accepted can ask questions for this upcoming year!!! Go Blue!

Honestly, the math placement test isn’t hard imo. It was like Pre-Calc, if I remember correctly. The writing placement essay isn’t hard either, just annoying to do. And all you really have to do is write it, and you can pretty much take any writing class you want.

Hey guys!

When do we sign up for dorms?? and is there anything we need to do over the summer, specifically june thru july… because i will be out of the country??

You will need to do your Maths placement test and your English placement essay over summer. Also, your orientation will be normally be June or July, although you’ll have to sign up for the August one.

What were your stats? Also, when did you have all of your materials in by and how long until you got your reply? Thanks!

hey guysss… just very excited to finally be able to join this thread :)

^ Woot grats!

So I just got a letter from President Coleman. The ink was all messed up, and I could barely read it though!

^^ I feel you SamIAm, I’m glad to be here too. yosup, what was the letter from President Coleman about?

When can we sign up for housing? If I want to room with a transfer, is that possible?

Transfers very rarely live in the dorms. You may get placed with one but you cannot room with one unless you have their name and request each other specifically. Your best bet to accidentally get placed with one would be northwood 3 apts, I have no idea if that’s available to freshmen.

Why would you want to live with a transfer?

so if you were to respond and accept the offer earlier, does that mean you have a greater chance of living whereever you want to?

What offer are you talking about? Offer of admission? If so, then no. If you get the housing form in by the deadline (early Summer), they do a lottery system so everyone has a fair chance, no matter when you accepted the offer of admission.

The way housing works is you get a form in Spring that’s due early Summer if I remember correctly. You have three choices: Central/Hill, North - Bursley, and North - Baits. You rank the three on the order of preference.

You can also choose to room with someone you know if you know their name and UMID#. However, you still do not get to choose where you live.

Off-campus housing is also an option, even as a freshman. Though I’d recommend living in a dorm for your first year for the experience, most people look into off-campus housing for their sophomore year and onwards, because it’s much cheaper.

What’s the deal with UROP?
